It could be a blaster worm , its a type of virus which just royaly f+++s up your computer . I had it , it actually managed to damage the hdds partition and a new OS could no longer be installed . I had to bu ya new hdd and then use a data recovery program to get it all back .

Sounds like the garentee has expired many moons ago . If I were you I would go and buy a new card asap .
