The side skirt looks a little bit like it's shopped, but other than that, holey-moley that's a lot of CF!

If I had that insane amount of money though, I'd save half of it and buy an SL63 AMG:

Um going one better is actually the SL63, it's newer and it's got the 09 SLK55 AMG facelift which means it's FRICKIN SWEET!

The facelift model comes with both the 63 and 65.

Meh, I still like the 63 better. Don't know why. Maybe because on the last model 1000Nm of torque was too much for the 65 to handle...

How do you sleep at night saying things like that. You can't judge a car until you've driven it #-o

He's probably thinking of the Top Gear episode with that car.

It would rock violently from side to side as Jeremy did a powerslide, because of the mad traction control system.

Every fast Merc I've ever driven has had ADD-induced traction control. It turns itself on the moment you start doing anything that involves changing an imput- I wouldn't be suprised if it got activated by the indicators or radio. Still, that's why they give you the option of turing it off.

I'd rather see a M1 based off the new 1 Series coupe than the original M1...

That concept looks like it was designed in the '80s for some futuristic movie. :P

That makes me sad. :( Firstly, because that that's hardly an 'homage' to the M1; secondly, because I can't believe BMW could could come up with something so ugly.

Wait. Did you miss the X6? That was really ugly.
That M1 thing isn't too bad, considering the first one.

EWW. The new "M1 Homage" is just another instance of a car company uglifying a classic by making it look more "new" when it doesn't need to be. (This doesn't happen all of the time; most "modern muscle" cars like the Camaro Concept and the new Mustang look OK, but redoing a 1980's exotic or supercar is a bad idea.)

You see, I thought that at the start but now it's really growing on me. I don't like the front, it's too much like an Alfa Romeo, and I don't like the wheels, they look like pie dishes, but the lines of the rear of the car, particulalry from the back and 3/4 views, are incredible and the more I look the more I can see how it's a homage to the original.

Plus, who cares what the front looks like? If BMW's recent engine performance is anything to go by (currently winning almost every class at International Engine of the Year) then you'll only ever get to see the back ;)

This is kinda what I meant. As a car, it might not be a looker, but as an homage, I like it.

Meh... I sort of agree with you there. If they do bring it to production with some modification, it could work. It looks barely passable, on 2nd inspection - but I still like the body of the original M1 much better.
