Shader Model 3.0 is required for motion blur. Shader Model 2.0 is required for Visual Treatment, Road Reflection, Rain, etc. A 9250 only has Shader Model 1.0. So while you are able to play the game, many graphics settings will not be available to you.

Three things could have happened:
1. The savegame is corrupt
2. The savegame checksum is corrupt
3. The CDKey in the savegame doesn't match your installation

If it is 1, there is nothing that can be done. But for 2 and 3, use gnagna2000's Unlocker program to force the game to load the savegame, and then save it so that any corrupt checksum or CDKey is replaced. Google gnagna2000 to find her website.

Need for Speed Carbon is the buggiest NFS game to date. Among it's prominent features are random Crashes to Desktop, and BSOD inducing crashes.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for everything, including your graphics and sound cards. You should also disable any background processes while playing the game (such as Antivirus/Firewall etc.)

.. and even when you have done all those things, your system is clean as a whistle and running beautifully, the game will still crash occasionally.

okay well i have an overly qualified computer here

320GB Hardrive (157 left)
256MB of Video Memory
2GB of RAM
Direct 9.0c video and audio
Dual Core Intel Processor 2.8GHz each
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 +

Top of Top it gets

Now I start the nfsc.exe and it goes to black screen 1/4 of black screen comes back and says error
nfsc.exe has encountered an error and now must close.

Don't send and send error report thing comes up. Everytime!

Now most people are having trouble with this.

How can I fix this?
I've checked my compatibility - tried 2000, 98, 256bit mode and everything!
Checked service pack and even tried Windows XP Service Pakc 1 and 2 with all updates!
Direct 9.0c audio and video legit
256 MB of video memory usage

Now here is a guess of mine
It only support ATI radeon recent ones and NVIDIA GeForce, does not accept Intels

You have onboard graphics. Carbon will refuse to work with onboard graphics. Ditch it and get a real graphics card.

now can i get like a nvidia video card separately through like a pci or agp slot?

Posted: 07 Jan 2007, 17:15
by prince1142003
Yes. I would suggest getting an AGP graphics card if you don't have a PCI-Express slot. Regular PCI is outdated and slow. If you don't have an AGP slot, you're out of luck and will need a new motherboard.

Check some discount online stores before you go to like Best Buy and stuff because you can get the same products for less.

hey i have an issue when i load up carbon i load a game save i got from a friend and i look through the cars and then carbon crashes... help???

Go through the selection menu more slowly. It's a known issue with Carbon.

If it crashes on a particular car, scroll the other way to get to that car.

This happens in my game from time to time, and I never installed a different save or used a trainer or whatever. I expect the loading of car models is a fairly intensive process and you're likely to get some crashes there from time to time.

Could also be due to loading a save from the Collector's Edition into the normal version - not sure.

i have collectors edition... if i go through it any more slowly it will crash sooner...

Sounds like the answer is not to use that save.

Why would you think a trainer could help?

I bought the PC version for the extra cars (Collectors Edition) after playing it on 360.
Trouble is it crashes frequently at any time sometimes more often than others, usually when I pick a race in worldscreen.

I have a newish puter with 256mb graphics and 1gb ram but still it seems to 'struggle' and I have to choose settings not as high as I would like and turn off rain and blur because it affects framerate.

It's come to the point now that I can't enjoy it because I don't know when next it will crash. Hurumph!
