yeah, I'm dominating all races, except the ones that can't be dominated

is completing Main Events the only way to unlock new things?

So I'm playing the game and finishing mission after mission, I even have gotten up to level 6 in skills, yet I can't seem to be able to unlock cars past tier 4, or even past stage 1 of parts! At what part of the game do I unlock further parts and cars? How does it work?

Whenever I play top speed and I'm behind a car, my car slows down from 200 to about 140, I thought that being behind a car was supposed to actually make the car go faster, matter of fact, the game itself gives a tip that if you stay behind the car you'd create a slipstream. On drag races I see the car next to me and the way it is modified, and I want it looking like they have it
this is what I mean:
the front of the car is lower than the back side, the tires are sticking out and are really fat
how do I get the cars looking like they do?

ok dude, then explain this, how come there's only been ONE race when I was first and I was the fastest car there? how come on other races I have the least horsepower and yet I'm LAST??
