First NFSC Preview by Gamespot

Post by Skyline_man »

So as promised by EAcomSmoothie, the first Need For Speed Carbon preview by Gamespot is here, its a nice 2 pages preview packed with a 3 new gamesplay videos and a developer interview.
Another new twist to the gameplay in Need for Speed Carbon is the variety of car classes, which are being tweaked to have unique physics and handling. We were able to try out a canyon run with a car from each class and we liked how different each was. You'll actually have to become familiar with each of the classes in Need for Speed Carbon as, unlike previous games, you'll really have to master them all to some degree. The main reason to do so is that, when facing off against the various crews, you'll find that their individual turfs have been designed to play to the strengths of their vehicles. So tuner car areas will feature sharp turns, while muscle car areas will favor more linear open tracks, for example.
Read the preview here.

Download the videos here.

Yep, it looks like driving down Jackson Heights in U2
(Which was extremely boring if you ask me)

Remember that you need to stick close to your opponent while driving downhill.

Its like Formula D-ish without drifting. Looks fun if the AI actually can put up a fight that is.

EDIT: I was hoping the drifting in the game would be more like formula D, but it seems EA is just gonna use the same style like U2.

none of the previews have any drifting in them. that's a very tightly closed secret with EA. only in-game previews they've released are of Canyon Duels.

I didnt say it was drifting. I mean the rules are similar. eg: one car leads and the other follows then on the second leg they switch. The differenceis that in Formula D if u go around you opponent its an automatic win but in NFS C you go around your opponent you lose.

my bad, i was replying to Gene7, not you. and FormulaD is based on touge racing anyways, and EA never uses the real race modes, they always throw in their own twist. remember drag?

Canyon Racing looks great, switching places is awesome, trying to keep the points made in the 1st run ... well there`s no damage, no overedge falling.

The most unlikely thing i`ve noticed is the gearshifting sounds, they are totally cracked...don't like them at all. Speaking of sounds, in the 3rd gameplay trailer, the player restarted the race, the menu sounds are the same with MW. One more thing is that the cars seemed a bit like match boxes, what the heck is wrong with them?! I don`t know how they manage to play on that darkness, you can only see what those headlights show, so I think some powerfull xenons are needed on the customization :)

Remember, the gameplay videos are from an early version of the game, possibly Beta, so there should be much better sounds once the game gets closer to completion :D

P.S. I can't download the vids for some reason..
Everytime it gets to around 26-30% it says "download complete" only it's not and the file doesn't even open. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't like how the tachometer is digital now. I liked it better when it was analog with the needle and what not.

Man what are you whining about, do you know if this is the only hud you can get??? NO you don't!
And in earlier NFS games you could also choose for a digital speedo and Tach.

I do agree that one of the good things in HP2 where the huds with realistic copies of the original speed and tach. (BMW M5 with a M logo in within the meter CL55 with a AMG logo etc)

Now that was pretty cool. I would love if they used that design.( Speed and Tach at the bottom center of the screen).

this is awsome stuff

preview sounds really good and the vidoes r cool

also noticed a few things:

in the new pic theres a 69' Camaro in it which proves that they might have old school muscle

second, i noticed that the Evo had a new bodykit on it. Looks pretty cool
