Or run a cold air feed to the pod filter. Whatever floats your boat.
I'm looking at buying a 2003 VW Lupo GTi as a runaround whilst the Audi seems to be spending every day either in MTM having engine tweaks or with The Phirm messing with the trasmission and suspention. Hoping to hit the magic 400whp by the end of the summer! And I can't seem to detatch the missus from the driving seat of the beamer either!

@ Tunerfreak

We recently learned some stuff about air filters at TAFE, and I have realised that your pod filter is utterly useless in its current configuration. It's sitting in the middle of the engine bay with no scoops or ducts to feed cool air to it.
That means you're sucking in hot air, and if anything, you'd be losing power.

I'm suprised your dad let you do that, considering he has the biggest performance shop in NZ or whatnot . . .

Edit: what you should do is get a high-quality panel filter and put it in the standard airbox
Yep, sucking in hot air is not very good for your performance...
I see alot of people do that they buy a cone filter and think... wow performance.. but forget where to place it a CAI is often forgotten. you need it near the bumper (opening that is) to get fresh cool air in. not above the engine... heat rises and you are getting bloody hot air in the engine...

We have very good news on the grounds of reaching 400whp by summer.
Having spoken with MTM again, they've taken an order for a KKK26-series custom Turbocharger (similar to the one used in the Audi S1 Quattro); the order having been cancelled, theres a possibility the charger could be used in my car, which should enable me to push well beyond the 400whp I'm aiming for!

Now I have the T28 on, Im only running 0.4 bar, which is less than standard. However, the car still made 170bhp on the rollers, and with a dawes device on its way, that boost should be at the 1.2 bar mark by our Nurburgring trip in September.

My T28 fitted:

The spoiler was indeed expensive at £400! The CF contrast with the black usually isnt quite as pronounced as it is in that pic, but you can really tell when the sun hits it.

As for mine, its a 200SX. :P

My brother has a fair amount of money, he also has an Impreza Sport as a runaround, and a MK3 Astra GSi as a weekend car. His WRX fits somewhere in between. I, on the other hand, am poor. I now dont have enough money to put petrol in my car until I get paid again!

I do like the Mk3 Astra, for no feasable reason.
Currently Audi-less for the next 2 weeks or so, as its back to MTM for the GT3071R blower, associated maps, cylinder head and modifications to the injection system. At the same time, I'm having the Porsche/Brembo 4-pots revamped and running them on some larger disks, and possibly swapping the alloys for some tasty BBS LM-series 3-pieces.
So, in the meantime, I've made good on what I promised myself 6 months ago and bought another Corrado.
Its a late 1995 VW Corrado VR6, running dropped suspention, 16" BBS alloys, a REVO remap and Supersprint exhaust. Black leather interior, Pioneer head unit and VDO gagues, and will replace the Audi as my D.D. From now on, with an est. 430 at the wheels from the Audi, I'm not going to run it on the road as much, as there just isn't anywhere to put down that kind of power effectively. However, I'm aiming to be well into the 11's on the strip, and the car may well just become an (expensive) trackday toy. Also, I'm getting in touch with Performance VW to see if they want to do a feature on the car.
All change again in the cars in my household...The beamer's staying though.

They're quick, and fun to drive, infinately tunable and can make great street sleepers, but it will cost you a fortune in tyres!
@Grez. Whats with the Punto in the background?

The Punto in the background is my neighbours car, a lad I went to school/college with. Originally started modifying it as a joke, but he took it a bit far after that...

I always wonder why people feel the need to plaster the name of their car all over it. Especially if it's already been de-badged.

I was wondering the same thing...

I always find it weird why people debadge the car and put loads of stickers on the car to let you know what brand or type it is :?

One of my co-workers has a 93 Civic and he has a huge honda logo on the hood and a huge Honda vinyl on the windscreen with 2 logo's and it says in huge HONDA!

IT is so damn funny... like no one noticed it is a honda.

Hah, I know what you mean. Although I think ever since he put those graphics on, he's got sick of us saying ''so, what car is that again?'' :D

Its always ammusing. I remember at GTi International, one of the VF Automotive Supercharged R32's had a huge R32 emblazoned across its side. For the rest of the day, everyone referred to it as the "Skyline", much to the ammusement of the owner.

My project car revisited.

I've been working on my T1000 again (if anyone remembers). I got tired of fixing it up bit by bit or what ever happened to break apart so decided to tear it completely apart and start from scratch. So far I've done most of the sheet metal work that needed fixing (rusted bits and so forth) and re-coated the bottom.

When I get the frame all fixed up, I'll send it out to get cleaned/sand blasted and re-painted. Don't have the equipment (or skills) to do that myself.

Performance wise, I'm also tuning the engine a bit. Obviosly I'm cleaning and re-painting the engine parts aswell, but I'm also putting in new pistons, cylinder head and racing grade crank- and camshafts. Perhaps I'll get this puppy "up" to three digit bhp's ;)

It's been a while since I posted anything in this thread, so here goes.

My new rims finally arrived at the dealer last saturday.
I went there this thursday to have them fitted.
The front rims fitted straight on without any problems, but the rear ones didn't.
They rubbed on the inside of the arches. So the guy from the garage had to custom make me 2 spacers of 7mm.
Now the right tyre on the rear fitted perfectly, but the left/rear-tyre didn't.
It hit the arch just a little bit. So after more then an hour of adjusting and testdriving, I went back home with my new rims fitted.

The tyre on the rear/left still hits the inside of the arch just a little bit, but it will do for now. :)
I have to say, I'm very very very pleased with the result :P :P

@ vellu: Nice work, I'm sure the car will look great when it's all done.

@ master m: Your car is also looking very nice, but . . . SPACERS! They're illegal in Australia, and there's a good reason for it. Spacers put extra stress on the wheel studs, and also the wheel bearings. This can later lead to harsh vibrations or snapped studs.

I highly recommend that you get wheels that fit properly. In the meantime, take it easy with your driving. We don't want to see you damaging your newly modded car

Spacers arent as bad as people would have you believe. There arent many cars in the SXOC that dont use them, and Id say at least 60% of the cars on there have seen track use at least once. :)

I'm running 10mm spacers on every wheel in the Audi, and I'm thinking of running 25's on the Corrado so the BBS' fill the arches completely. But I'm worried about rubbing with 25mm spacing.
Spacers themselves, like adapters, don't add much stress to wheel bolts, bearings or shafts; only when they're incorrectly fitted to they pose a problem or danger.
