ASUS N6200 Checksum Error?

Post by Ozzey10 »

I just bought an ASUS N6200. I put it into the AGP slot, but when I turned my computer back on, this came up:

"101-Option ROM Checksum Error

An add in card in your system is not working correctly. If you have recently added new hardware, remove it and see if the problem remains. If this message goes away after you remove your new hardware, there may be a problem with the add in card."

What's wrong? is there a way to bypass this? (This is my first card purchase, upgrading from a GeForce 2!)

Did you follow the directions in the error message?

yeah, it said to take it out, so I did and put my old card back in. The old card works; the new one doesn't. Is the memory fried, or is the card (AGP 8/4X) trying to display in 8X? My mobo can only support 4.

Right, so the card has a problem. Take it back to the store and get a replacement. It doesn't matter what's wrong with it - it just doesn't work. Take your mobo spec with you this time.

Reinstalling Windows should be a second to last resort after reformattin, and that doesn't always fix everything.

And definitely won't help in this case, since the problem occurs before the OS even starts loading.

Alright, I just sent it back to the store, but they've tested it, and it works. I know that it must have something to do with my computer, but what?

How do I check CMOS? I'm a bit noobish and I don't know how, but I can't get anywhere with the card because of the checksum error.

I have a Compaq 5430 US. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with its motherboard. Does anyone know what I can do about it?

Errr... why would you even bother trying to upgrade something as old (and lame) as that?
My advice would be to save your money and get the money together and buy newer parts including a motherboard which can support AGP 8x.

when your computer boots, it will say something like "press f1 to enter setup
" or f10 or delete or something, go in their and look for video and see what it says.

No, it won't allow me to check setup. Guess my motherboard can't set it to 4X mode. I guess i'll send it back, cause there's nothing else I can do.
