Graphic Card problems

Post by Tyrant »

Recenty, I got a GeForce 6600GT. It's a nice card. But since that day problems came. In almost every game, the screens goes to Sleep Mode after a while (some games more regularly then others). I have to restart the computer again. I have the latest drivers. This problems driving my crazy, because I can't play NFSUG2 for example. In some games, like Brothers in Arms and Oblivion, this problem occures less times (once in 2 days or so). If anyone got help, it's greatly appreciated.

the screen isnt going into sleep mode, the graphic card is hanging.

if you can get to your BIOS settings and can navigate around it, turn off FastWrites. check the temperature to make sure its not overheating. check your drivers too. and lastly, unplug the card and replug it. incidentally, does nVidia have a VGA resetter utility like ATI does?

This sometimes happened with my 9600XT but when I installed the drivers it was fixed. Dunno any other reason why it would happen with a card.

Hmm...now that you mention this in detail, it has happened to me many times, even after updating drivers, so apart from what prince said, i can't this of another solution :?

I presume you have the new 9xxx drivers. I suggest you install the previous ones...the 84.21 drivers

I only had that kind of a problem with my old card (Ti4200) and only with NFSU2.
No problems with any other games whatsoever.
And actually those problems only started showing up like a year after i had installed NFSU2.
So i dunno wth was that all about :D.
No problems for a year with NFSU2 and all of a sudden when i turn the game on my screen says there's "no connection" to my card.
But i just restarted the game a few times and after a few tries it would work again.
lol wut

Yeah, I had the problems too, but it didn't bug me much. But I can't play NFSU2 at all, because it happens here every minute! Before that, everything worked. But I reinstalled NFSU2 last week.
I'll try some of those solutions, thanks!!

i have an nvidia 6800 go gt or whatever else it has named on it....but that's what i got.....and i use the 9xxx drivers for it, even though they aren't signed for it......the card actually performs alot better than when i use the latest drivers recomended for it.....which i think are the 84.xx ones, not sure.....but the 9xxx offer me extra features like overclocking the card from the destop without going into the bios......and i get more choices in screen resolutions in the games themselves  8)

You could use guru3d, or use nVidia's archives

if the drivers didnt fix it, make sure the card receives extra power from the PSU
it might sound silly, but people often seem to forget this >.<

It seems to be a power supply problem. What type of PSU are you running? As in 300W, 420W etc?

PSU rating is usually written at the side of the PSU casing. Check brand and watt.

BIOS is accessed by pressing Delete during POST, where the IDE devices and HDDs are shown. The BIOS is not part of Windows, it's the software part of your motherboard.

Ok thanks dude. I can only play games on very low settings. If I turn the graphics up, the game still runs very smooth (nice framerate), but after a while it crash. Really weird.

Overheating maybe? Check that the fans are spinning and heatsinks aren't full of dust.

Grr.. The same problem occurs with the Carbon demo (so I assume the full version will have the same problem).

Actually my 6600GT used to do the same thing, I could hardly play any games 'coz it would just hang for no apparent reason. All the drivers never helped either. I only fixed this 'problem' by getting a new gfx card.

You really bought a new one? Phew, I'm hoping there are other solutions. I'm going to replug.

I guess if that ain't work.. Which card do you have now? Maybe I can sell my card for a nice price.
