Yeah, I know. I just love the looks of that car. I'd get a GSX, but those are a little too rare to be found here in Brazil, so I'll probably get a GST. =D

I'm saving up for either a Mazda Protege (Sport 2000) or Mitsubishi Lancer.

'88 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II

I've completely redone the car. Rebuilt and ported the engine, threw a Turbonetics 62-1 with a .96 A/R hotside, installed and tuned a Haltech E6K engine management system, GReddy 2-row front-mounted intercooler, 255LPH fuel pump + Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator, 3" downpipe to 3" blank catalytic converter to 3.75" A'pexi GT catback, and all the other bells and whistles that were required. It is street driven to and from work every day.

It's currently making 409.3 rear wheel horsepower (~440 at the flywheel) at 14 psi. I'm installing my alcohol injection system soon, then I'll up the boost to 16-18 and expect 450-470 rear wheel horsepower. It runs mid 11's in the quarter mile consistently on Mickey Thompson street radials. Hopefully I can break a 10 out whenever the alcohol injection with more weight reduction is done.

Some pictures are attached.

Beautiful, although Im very sceptical of 11s...unless you have a slip? Would be interesting to see the 60ft time.

Sorry, I don't have any slips. Any one who questions me is always welcome to accompany me when I go out to the drag strip.. and it's happened a few times before.

RX-7s break 11s usually by 380, 390 RWHP without weight reduction on the stock drivetrain. I have a 4-puck clutch for the strip and also an upgraded LSD. I'd credit the long gears with the high revving rotary (my rev limit is 9000, although I stop making power at 7500'ish)... it's a good combo for a drag strip. A good 60ft time for me is usually inbetween 1.6 and 1.7, although my current best is a 1.67. Mickey Thompsons hook up well.

I have massive amounts of weight reduction done, and more to come... power steering will be coming out soon, I've already stripped the trunk and relocated the battery (using a lighter battery), removed sound-deadening material, etc. I haven't officially weighed it, but it's definitely less than 3000 pounds. I'd guess around 2700'ish.

Next time I'm at the strip, I'll have a friend bring a video camera. :)

Dont get me wrong, Im not saying it cant be done, Im just a sceptical old dog.

We dont get many FCs over here, so my only real experience comes with FDs. Even with slightly higher horsepower (around 450-500 at the fly), Ive seen very few dip into the 11s, and the few that did, well we're talking high 11s. My brothers old FD ran a low 12 with 450bhp, as well as being stripped, caged...it was basically a track car.

But yeah, get your friend to take a camera. Dont do it as a 'proof' gesture, it be nice just to see how well that thing hooks up, as those are damned impressive 60ft times.

Going to check out a Porsche 964 Turbo today.
About 2 weeks ago the Corrado became unhappy with running 230 at the fronts and snapped its driveshaft, I've got offers of up to around £3k for it in non-running order so I think it's going to go. The CSL is staying unless someone decides to offer me over £40k for it, in which case I might think about letting it go.

450 bhp and he couldn't break an 11? That's disappointing. I guarantee you that car had a low 11 in it somewhere.. could have been a tuning issue, as rotaries are very very picky when it comes to things like AFRs and temperatures. Even if you're making 450 flywheel horsepower, it might not be putting it down in the right fashion.

I know an FD on stock sequential twin turbo that's pushing less than 350 rwhp and is in the 10s.. same situation: stripped/caged/tubbed. He ran a best of 10.99.. don't remember trap speed, 120'ish. I also know of a stripped/tubbed RX3 running a mid 9 on a peripheral ported 13B with no turbo at all. Makes in the 320 rwhp range, but has absolutely no torque.. maybe 160, 170 RWTQ. Something about the way a rotary puts out power makes it a very potent engine even at low horsepower.

The owner of the carclub I'm in taught me how to launch. He's an incredibly good driver when it comes to racing techniques. Before he gave me a lesson or two I was stuck at 1.9 - 2.1 in the 60ft.

But yeah, I don't know if I'll be making it to a track before they close for the winter as I have a broken motor mount and I don't want to be dragging it in that situation.. but next time I'm out there I'll get a good video and let you see it.

PS: Your car is very clean. Do I smell an RB20DET in the future? :)

Here's a guy with a similar setup (bit less efficient 60-1 turbo, but he's still making 360'ish RWHP) running an 11.87. As far as I know he doesn't have extensive weight reduction:

It just seems odd, the Dragon Motorsports RX7 has only really just started dipping into the 9s now, and is basically a full-time dragster. I know it all depends on the tune, but this car has been set up by a UK rotary specialist, and is one of the more potent cars in the pro class. The last I heard, she was pushing out 600-700bhp.

As I say though, its not that I dont believe it. Besides, you seem to know what youre talking about, so youre good by me. Feel free to visit the link in my sig for a more car-orientated forum.

Thank you for the comment on my SX. Although Id love one, Im not RBing her unless my CA gives up the ghost. At its current set-up, shes good for 300bhp so itll put me on, but as it stands Im saving up for a Honda NSX / 69 Camaro Z28 depending on their availability at the time (in a couple of years).

Yay! Finally got the battery out of the Escort, now I can charge it, then test to see if it is the Starter Motor causing the problems! :D Then if it is, I'll go at it with a hammer, then if that fails, I'll get another. :)
