Cable box to PC

Post by S2000_Skyline12 »

Would it be possible to connect my cable box directly to my PC to watch tv on the Media Center? Or would I still need the TV tuner? I'd be kinda pissed if I still needed the tuner

That's propably just for firmware updates, and not the tv signal itself.

At the very least you are going to need somekind of "video in" adapter device for your computer, which would also have the correct connectors your box uses. Not sure if such a thing exists, atleast I've never come across one. Video capturing is not the same, that would mean recording. I'm assuming you want live tv.

As far as I know in order to view TV on your pc, you need a tuner card or a tuner usb adapter.

The usb port (if it's like tivo) is for wi-fi and crap... you would need the tv tuner. And if i had XP i could use the one i have and show you.

My dad got a thing for christmas which basically connects the satellite reciever to Media Center where from there he can record and watch live tv. Pretty neat, it evens sets the tv guide up in Media center for him.. Was about 100 bucks though.

Hey, if you want a good cheap tuner, check ebay or geeks. YOu should be able to get one around $30. Best I can do 4 ya. Just make sure it is compatable with Media Center and it doesn't have to have it's own individual program.
