Computer Help Thread
Re: Computer Help Thread
it's the compliance with the 64bit CPUs
Re: Computer Help Thread
In 32-bit versions of Windows, a single application can only address up to 2 GB of space (256 MB I/O, 1.75 GB physical memory). Once you exceed this limit, the application will crash.

Re: Computer Help Thread
allright, thanks everyone.
Another question:
How much watt should my PSU be? it should support the following:
A+case XClio II (1 x 250mm Fan)
2 x 120 mm fan with LEDs
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with G0
Geforce 8800 GT
And some more, of course. I have seen a pretty good one: http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/in ... StoryID=15
Click 'Technical Data' 'for more info about the amps and stuff....

Re: Computer Help Thread
It depends if you're going to be overclocking, adding more graphics cards in the future, or upgrading. IMO, it's always best to have more power on hand than you really need so you have headroom to add more and/or faster parts which will require more power.
If you're not overclocking or upgrading at all, a good quality 450W power supply would be fine (i.e. Corsair 450W), so that 550W will also be more than adequate.
If you're looking to upgrade in the future, you may want to spend a little more and get a good quality 600-750W power supply.

Re: Computer Help Thread
Because 64-bit versions take advantage of 64-bit processors, which use two 32-bit layers. In short, more processing power out of a processor. Unfortunately, not a lot of programs are compatible with a 64-bit OS, so there is still a need for 32-bit versions.RVD wrote:Then why would Microsoft even bother to make the 64-bit version....prince1142003 wrote:Vista 32-bit versions can support more than 4GB of RAM.
Re: Computer Help Thread
Can you give an example of a 64-bit processor?

Re: Computer Help Thread
Any AMD processor that says Athlon64 is a 64-bit processor. I'm not completely sure if Intel has a lineup of those, but I'm sure they do. The 64-bit processors in existence today are hybrid processors that can handle both 32-bit and 64-bit floating-point instructions.RVD wrote:Can you give an example of a 64-bit processor?

Re: Computer Help Thread
Would it really be worth it to get 4GB ram on a 32-bit OS? I mean, i would still get around 3 - 3.5GB, and I could always upgrade to ultimate, right? (Ultimate has both 32 and 64 bit software.)
Re: Computer Help Thread
If you're running Vista, yes ... Even w/ the 32-bit version only being able to use 3-3.5 GB, you'll still get substantially better performance than 2 GB.Carcrazy wrote:Would it really be worth it to get 4GB ram on a 32-bit OS? Re: Computer Help Thread
I currently run XP 32bit on a Ath64 processor, should I change the OS for an 64bit XP? no Vista, because I only run on 1gb RAM.
Re: Computer Help Thread
XP64 sucks big time (and few hardware manufacturers have written decent drivers for it) so no. Vista64 however seems better, but true 1GB isn't enough for it.danyutz wrote:I currently run XP 32bit on a Ath64 processor, should I change the OS for an 64bit XP? no Vista, because I only run on 1gb RAM.
Re: Computer Help Thread
Got another question, but about something completely different:
there's this video + song on the internet, which i like more then the youtube version (because it does have proper sound instead of crappy mechanical youtube noises...). This is it:
http://www.clipjes.nl/clip/pop/e/eric_c ... ive_1.html
I was wondering: is there a way to rip this file and save it as, say, a WMV file? In this way, i can play it offline and on my mobile phone.

Re: Computer Help Thread
Absolutely not ... 64-bit XP has very little support behind it, so you're just asking for trouble moving to 64-bit XP. 64-bit Vista is much better supported, but you'll probably want to run 4 GB of RAM.danyutz wrote:I currently run XP 32bit on a Ath64 processor, should I change the OS for an 64bit XP? no Vista, because I only run on 1gb RAM.

Re: Computer Help Thread
Since that's an HD card, it probably supports DirectX 10. Which leads to my next question: are you using Vista or XP?

Re: Computer Help Thread
It's quite possible. It could be due to driver issues since you are using a 64-bit OS, so you might want to check into that. I think ATI's 64-bit drivers are no longer beta, but you might have to double check me on that.

Re: Computer Help Thread
There are other drivers that you might want to look into, such as the Processor driver, the Motherboard chipset drivers.
