Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
The fastest I've been driven was 125KM/h (about 77mph) on normal road. I was in a cab and it was late at night. I guess he wanted to make the trip fast. The traffic lights were being obedient too, I must say.
It was... quite an experience.

That's transonic speed. And pretty much impossible for a commercial aircraft with such weight, wing aspect ratio and thrust. At that speed the airflow over the rudder, tail and wings becomes distorted and in a high-tailed commercial aircraft that would result in loss of control.Texhnolith wrote:1201kmph in a Airbus A300 from Vancouver to Amsterdam with massive backwind

My brother and I've maxxed out the Escape before, so around 125 MPH.
Yeah, that was before he broke it to hell.

Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
I've got the 'Lude up to 115mph one late night on the highway... And come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been driven faster than that.
Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
so ive pretty much gone 102 in my expedition xlt
Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
I've only reached 110 km.h driving on the freeway, but If I get done 10km/h over the limit, I lose my licence, I'm only a P-plater, so not on my full licence yet, lol. But yeah, I'd track my own car, wouldn't risk it on the road. Mountain roads are a good thrill, trying to do 100ks on them (speed limit) is hard enough, lol.
But, yeah, been driven 160km/h in Europe and when parents were in a hurry here back from a trip, lol. It stopped when they got done, lol.

I was able to get my 66' Vette to about 140 mph over the weekend.

Hey, thats what I thought aswell untill the display in my airplane read 1201kmph. Dunno if it miscalculated somewhere, but heck I arrived aleast 30min early on my destination. Got pics of the monitor to prove it.steelsnake00 wrote:That's transonic speed. And pretty much impossible for a commercial aircraft with such weight, wing aspect ratio and thrust. You'd have to subtract the wind speed (if aircraft was going with the wind) to get the air speed.
But still at cruising altitude the speed of sound is around 1050kph, which means to get the speed you mentioned the back winds were pretty strong. I doubt that the speed indicator was wrong.
Here's an article that explains it: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/in ... 0210.shtml

Sounds logical. The display indeed said Groundspeed 1201kmph (746mph) at an altitude of 37000 feet. Temp being -55C.

Forgive me Father, for I have sped....
Got the R31 up to 150kph+ going along a nice stretch of road last night. Luckily there were no cops about XD. That's actually pretty good considering the speedo only goes to 200

Yes but need I remind you that this is a 1988 R31 with one of the most simple engines ever....And like I said the speedo only goes to 200.baumaxx1 wrote:My friend hit 180 in a small backstreet.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:Forgive me Father, for I have sped....

Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
A speedo obviously doesn't say much. A 150bhp engine shouldn't have too much problem reaching 200 if the gears allow it to.

I just bought a winter/fishing/don't give a shiznit about car A '94 ford aspire. I got it up to around 100 mph with the whole car shaking wildly
I got the Camaro to 122mph on the highway after I went and picked it up from the owner.

Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
I've been in an R31 that was doing 180kph, but not with me behind the wheel. It was also going downhill, and the car subsequently bottomed out when we went over a railroad crossing.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:Yes but need I remind you that this is a 1988 R31 with one of the most simple engines ever....And like I said the speedo only goes to 200.baumaxx1 wrote:My friend hit 180 in a small backstreet.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:Forgive me Father, for I have sped....

I don't hang out with that guy anymore.
Re: How fast have you driven yourself, or been driven?
Dissapointing news, i was driving to Michigan thru the i75 and i thought i'd try maxing the cars potential on the open road and i managed to get it to 130mph. After that the car just couldn't do any more. I know that a 2.0ltr stock-turbocharged engine isn't much to hope for but the previous owner managed to get it to 145. Still its the fastest i've driven ever
Also, later on, a Toyota Prius over took me while i was doing 80 (the limit was 70)
