NFS Hot Pursuit Demo: Hands-On Impressions

Post by TheNoobofFerraris »

If you've downloaded the demo, post your thoughts and concerns about the gameplay here.

Notes
*I had a very long download time, possibly 8 hours. Anyone else experience a long download time?

*The menu browsing felt sluggish and scrolling seemed too sensitive, but that might have been because my L3 stick has been used a lot and it caused interference.

Problems
*While playing the Cop event "Dark Horse," I had a bit of difficulty taking down the A.I. They're pretty much invincible to any shot taken to their front-wheel base or to the front of their vehicle. On the flipside, they had no problem brushing me out of the way and spinning my police cruiser a couple of times.

*The handling is kind of slow and heavy and it takes more effort that it should to turn. It's very easy to drift, but I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Pros:

- good visuals
- good engine sounds
- nice use of actual cars for traffic
- crashes look good
- nice transitions
- nice to have narrative voice back during car selection screen
- ability to change siren sounds
- options to map out own key scheme

Cons:

- no manual transmission
- cars feel sluggish and heavy (although I'll probably get use to it)
- no far view, only close rear
- no free view during car selection screen

Summary:

It's not disappointing but it's not amazing. I'll wait for reviews before deciding to purchase at full price or discount.

Odd FerrariNoob, I had no trouble damaging the racers. They were in fact extremely easy...

Interesting to see how they did things as Criterion are a very different outfit to BlackBox. So far not that disappointed other than it feels like Burnout Paradise more than reminding me of Hot Pursuit 2 or the original Hot Pursuit. There's too much gimmickiness going on the whole time. Just can't put a finger on it though.

I guess I should have rephrased my sentence. I had trouble taking down the racers from the front/front sides of their cars, or rather, I had no success in doing those things to them. I had no problems with taking them down using the basic shunts from the back and P.I.T maneuvers.

I think they are trying to get you to pass them & use the spike strips.
Speeding along minding my own business...

pros:
drifting is a good mix between burnout and realism. ie fun
cars have nice weight
graphics are pretty nice
the scenery on roadsters reborn is beautiful
500 bounty bonus to retail i guess, even though thats like one takedown

cons:
30 fps
needs more cop chatter on radio
many nfs fans are stupid and nitpick about the dumbest things

Haha I thought the same thing when I realized the full level 1 bar is 100 000.

I thought it was really awesome, having not played a need for speed game, let alone one with cops, for over three years. i didn't buy undercover because the reviews deemed it as garbage. i'm definitely going to get the game sometime. i had so much fun with the demo
