Don't you hate the ads on this site.

Post by baumaxx1 »

Good news.
I can see the random pictures and classic challenge ones...
but there are about 4 ads with max security, popup killer and norton internet security...

What do you think of the ads?

And why were they put up???

Yeah they suck big time. They make the site so slow and when I listen to music I hear the annoying ads.

And as much as they suck, without them this site wouldn't exist. And half of other sites on the internet.

Hehe correct.

But if you don't know what annoying ads are, try visiting http://www.ign.com or http://www.gamespot.com

Interstitial ads every 5 pages or so. Now THAT's annoying.

Well that would stop people from creating multiple user accounts for a start.... but there won't be as many people on this site.... in fact most under 18's won't be able pay for this privalages, cause they don't have some form of credit card, unless thier parents cough up for it.

Just one question...
How did this site survive before it had ads.

I reckon that you should introduce donating members. The people who donate could be allowed to have bigger avatars and sigs, and maybe even have their own special section in the forum.

Just a thought . . .

Well, since ads work just fine, I don't think we need any donating members. I mean come on, they're not that annoying.

And making a difference between paying members and freeloaders wouldn't result in a better atmosphere if you ask me. Not to mention having let's say a price of $10 per year, that would be like a spit in the ocean, even if there were more than 30 members (I doubt that many would subscribe anyway).

If I were to move to a paying host (to get rid of ALL the ads), then $300 would be enough for less than 2 months.

There is only one advert that really really peed me off, and that was the one for that god-awful "frog on a motorbike" mobile ringtone - you know the one.

Everytime my mouse hovered over it, that basket tried to download itself - aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrghhhhhh!

I also don't have too much problem with the adds, as I use Windows XP Pro with SP2 and IE6 (I know, you have permission to call me a Microsoft Lover - I can take it!) - turn your pop-up blockers on, guys!

well...okay, here's my suggestion:

if members wanna donate, let them. but dont MAKE people donate, because that would suck...keep this a free forum!!

there is a other forum (in dutch) about motorbikes and they have the same system you can become a "special" member (can be seen by a small logo under the name (above advatar) and they pay also like 10 a year. and I don't know the benefits of it....if I am not mistaken they got discounts at a certain motorshop but that is irrelivant now.

and it works fine there... you are free to choose...

I know IGN works with a system that if you pay... you don't get the ads etc... (in their case a HUGE amount!

and even though I use firefox I do find (don't see it anymore) the damn frog worthy of being killed!

and the contributing money goes to a good cause.... aka BOJAN...so he can get better tools etc...

Well, contributing to use the site? Now that sucks... NFSUnlimited would lose half the members for sure... Donating? OK, but special member ranks? Special members have their own special forums? People are gonna be too jealous, and Bojan is gonna get lots o' money. Sure, he can spend it on better tools, but there would still be more monney left. The money amount might overflow... Personally, there wouldn't be a NFSUnlmited if there were NO ads at ALL... Ads keep the advertisement companies happy. 'Shoot the bandit and get a free iPod', the makers of the iPod (Apple) are happy that their products are advertised. Look at IGN, wonder why they so rich? Because they give a shiznit of ads on their site, keeps companies happy that they wanna pay IGN probably... IGN also gets money by REMOVING the ads for paying users. I don't know, but I never payed attention to the ads even when I had IE... So the "special member" thing is definetly not what I want... jealous people... I'm ok if this site has ads... I dont care if they are all over the page, but I only care about the "page ads" (a page that has an ad on it and you can click "continue" to keep going)

Phew, something long to write...

and also... I'm back from the dead... *spooky*

Ads aren't that bad. I've seen worse, but my problem is that it doubles the amount i use of my internet. I've gotten used to them now. How come I never saw the ads before?
