Re: Post your system specs!
@ baumaxx: Ah man, I can understand that. My new LCD... probably the best thing I've ever bought for my computer.
Anyway, I'm debating whether to upgrade to a 64-bit Vista, or just wait until Windows 7 and have a little extra performance after the upgrade...

Re: Post your system specs!
I have a 9600GSO that I've overclocked to 600,900. Woo! Crysis on custom ultra high settings (1280x800) no AA around 16-30 fps. Damnit. But medium works flawlessly 1920x1200 no AA. 25-60fps.
Re: Post your system specs!

Re: Post your system specs!
Damn son, for a $20 upgrade this bi*ch put's in work!
New Specs:
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600@2.4Ghz
Abit AW9D-Max (i975X- Socket 775)
4GB (2x2GB) G.SKILL DDR2-800 @ 4-4-4-12 (Did I ever post this here?)
500GB WD 3Gb/s SATA HDD
PNY nVidia GeForce 8600GT OC 512MB GDDR3
22" Dell SP2208WPF LCD (Semi-new)
Logitech Z-2300 2.1 Channel Audio
Logitech Wireless Keyboard; Microsoft Wired Optical Mouse
Microsoft Xbox360 USB-Controller
I really only got it to hold me over until Christmas, when I'll hopefully be buying a GTX260-Core216, and wasn't expecting much more out of it than just a few DX10 features, but I'm actually glad I got it now. I can max out GRID @ 1650x1080 w/ 2xAA.
Best $20, EVER!
(Oh yes, I love my connections...)

^^ The core 216 GTX260 is major pwnage. Definatley worth the $300 price tag, for the superclocked edition. Even a single card runs all games perfectly with maximum gpx options, and high resolutions.
And in any case, if a new card comes out within the next 3 months, the step-up program will get you back on track.

I got this PC as a gift for graduation from my Grandfather. I was totally confused when it showed up on my doorstep with the FedEx guy winded by carrying it up the stairs. I asked him why he sent me it and his response was that it was sitting in his garage for 2 months after getting it as a gift at work I want to work where he works

Re: Post your system specs!
Ordered some upgrades for my gaming rig, which was still AGP based and starting to feel a little sluggish on newer games, particularly in higher resolutions.
MB: ASUS M3A32-MVP DELUXE (AM2+, QUAD CROSSFIRE, AMD790FX)
CPU: AMD PHENOM X4 9850 BLACK EDITION + ZALMAN CNPS7500-CU
RAM: 4GB DDR800 (2GB from old system)
GFX: 2x ASUS EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M (near to single GTX280 performance, but way cheaper. Though Crossfire performance various quite a bit from game to game, some don't benefit at all from the second card).
PSU: CORSAIR 650W (good for 2 way crossfire, not enough if I ever want to add more gfx)
OS: Vista 64Bit
From old system: Hard drives, DVDRW, Creative X-Fi Platinum, Chieftec case.
(see review for 4850 Crossfire: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1470/ ... index.html)

Re: Post your system specs!
Nice dude. I always wanted to try out a Phenom X4, but never had the courage
Also, how are catalyst drivers doing with crossfire?..no issues i hope, unlike nvidia

Re: Post your system specs!
Atleast according to the various 4800 series Crossfire reviews I've read the are no driver issues as such, some specific games have issues though (none that I care of). Quite the opposite actually. For example in the review link I already posted, at high resolution with full aa/af Crossfire simply dominates. AA/AF issues have been troublesome even with single gfx systems in the past.t3ice wrote:Nice dude. I always wanted to try out a Phenom X4, but never had the courage

And given the fact that the reference (in this case) gfx GTX280 costs over 500e and 2x 4850's less than 400e it's a really good deal.
Re: Post your system specs!
I upgraded to 4GB RAM but my 32-bit XP doesn't recognize it, only 3gb.
Re: Post your system specs!
Yup, that's how it works. For full 4GB (or more) one needs a 64-bit OS.Stereo wrote:I upgraded to 4GB RAM but my 32-bit XP doesn't recognize it, only 3gb.
Re: Post your system specs!
Are 64 bit OS good yet? or are they still a bit annoying for use everyday?vellu wrote:Yup, that's how it works. For full 4GB (or more) one needs a 64-bit OS.Stereo wrote:I upgraded to 4GB RAM but my 32-bit XP doesn't recognize it, only 3gb.
Re: Post your system specs!
No major issues so far (been using Vista64 a while now). Though I haven't found a 64b driver for my Canon printer yet...Canon hasn't made one itself for some peculiar reason.baumaxx1 wrote:Are 64 bit OS good yet? or are they still a bit annoying for use everyday?vellu wrote:Yup, that's how it works. Some older games (pre-2000) have issues, which is to be expected. Then again my game collection isn't huge, so I'm really no good benchmark for what works and what not.

Re: Post your system specs!
Actually NFSII, III and HP2 don't even work on 32-bit Vista. Shame that...

Re: Post your system specs!
I got HP2 to run on my old Vista somehow, I don't know how, but I do remember it took like 2 weeks and wouldn't run for more than an hour or so before crashing back to the desktop...
Re: Post your system specs!
This is why I downgrade back to XP. The only reason I'd get vista is for DX10 and so I can play multiplayer on Halo 2 Vista.
Halo 2 can run on XP with a hack but last time I checked I could only play singleplayer...
I'm planning to get a MacBook (pro possibly) next year, anyways. =P

Re: Post your system specs!
I just got a 9600GT and a new PSU... because the old one was made of fail. Yeah... 20 deg cooler now... no power struggle... and I'm maxxing most of my games on my 17" screen. I had to upgrade from an 8600, because I'll be running dual screen, one of them a full 1080p 22".
Re: Post your system specs!
Update. Parts have arrived and the system installed. The most important thing: the most recent NFS games (NFSU2, MW, Carbon, Pro Street) all work despite this being a slightly unusual setup (quadcore, crossfire, vista, 64bit). Only Carbon has issues, it requires Windows98/Me (of all things) compatibility mode to run. All other games run nice and neat at 1920x1200.vellu wrote:Ordered some upgrades for my gaming rig, which was still AGP based and starting to feel a little sluggish on newer games, particularly in higher resolutions.

@vellu : Just love that Zalman cnps7500-cu fan/heatsink... was actually considering it for myself but this stock intel one seems to be doing fine even at 4Ghz.

The only problem with it, it that it just LOVES to collect dust... =/
