Just want to talk? Come here.
what stig said, about doing what you like... I always wanted to be the captain of a nuclear sub. no jokes... My parents told me there are better things to do
... I tend to agree now...
I was may be 4 or 5, and we were on Black Sea, and I saw a submarine surface very far away, but every one could see it. It was awesome, it kept on moving, and than disappeared again.. I think they are impressive things...

Urq, the question is what is better....
Ok maybe to work for the Russian Navy is bad... with pay and safety... but
the western navy is a great experience I would have a loved to join... the travel and stuff. and they pay well for it and noone can take everything you saw away....
I think you should do what ever you wan't if you could,
I always wanted to become a Trainengineer....
BTW gt... don't get to much downforce on a sub... or else it won't surface

The one I posted is Akula in Russian terminology, but it's NATO Typhoon class. biggest in the world... The Nato Akula is this one. It's the one that's fast, like into 50knot plus speeds underwater, so the Nato didn't like it for a long time cuz it was fast enough to evade many torpedos. And it was silent - apparently after early 80's, the soviets tapped into some key US technology, and made this sub much more silent - the quitest of the soviet at the time. It it's a hunter though - it's not carrying nukes (well, torpedos yes). But the typhoon is their main ballistic missile weapon, with that hull being able to break though some thick ice in the polar... THey also have an older DeltaIV sub, but it's showing age now.

Well, my cousin's godfather was a 1st rank captain on a nuclear sub in the Norhern Fleet in USSR, and he retired when he was 40 or bit younger. Very cool guy, not talkative on his service though
.
I could be wrong, but this is the latest type they had, well, this was an earlier version, and it sank in north sea in a tragic fire disaster in 1989, but this type went on improved and what's become of it is secret more or less. Got titanium hull and all that, fast, silent and all the bells and whistles. I think there are only a handful of them around, as all military developement in Russia during 90-s pretty much stopped and is being resumed only in past few years.

Hmm, subs eh? Where I come from in Adelaide (South Australia) we have a submarine works - they make Collins class subs there...

The rollout of HMAS Collins from the Australian Submarine Corporation hull shop.

Collins leaving the Port River, Adelaide, in company with the HMAS Bounty replica.

Torrens breaks in half as a Collins torpedo detonates immediately beneath the hull
Know anything about them UrQ?
