maybe some, but i read in the consumer reports cars for 2006 that the big three generally did better reliability wise than their european counterparts, it was the japanese automakers that ran away with the reliability rating though. i think it is because the japanese dont try to please the common man which the big three do, nowadays it seems like in the USA if your brand new car/truck doesnt have 300+ HP then its not worth it even mercedes who is not well known for reliability has made a 500 + hp minivan ( R-series AMG ) for all those grocery getting soccer moms who like to do atleast 90 mph when the limit is 55 mph

Audi are very good on reliability. BMW are if you don't include major things (VANOS failure in the E36 M3 Evo, S54B32 engines exploding due to oil starvation ect ect.)
The same cannot be said about Mercades.
The yanks (and to some extent the Japanese) have long been the masters of making utterly useless cars. Dodge Ram SRT and Nissan Cube anyone?

Untill a few years ago Japanese cars where almost always ugly and super dull, but they almost never broke down.
It was the big strong point of a car like a Toyota and Honda.
Recently Toyota and Honda are building and designing their cars there where they are uses.
Almost all the european toyota's are build in europe, only the Landcruiser is still build in Japan.
And by doing that they made them look alot more appealing then before. For instance cars like the Toyota Avensis (current model) is a very popular car in the business and lease market. the previous model was also build in the UK but it was designed in Japan. wich made it rather dull.
Now it combines the 2 good things from the 2 continents, european design and Japanese engineering.
If you read the reliability reports Honda and Toyota are always on the top, same for customer satisfaction.
The last version I read (month ago) had Toyota and Honda at place 1 and 2. the end of the list was ruled by Fiat Alfa and Chevrolet.
Not suprising that Fiat and Alfa Romeo where there cause they still build rubbish cars, Alfa's do look nice but they break down before the even leave the dealership.
A friend of mine has a Alfa 159 wagon. within a month he had starting problems, he still has alarm problems, his alarm goes of when ever it pleases.

The Avensis is one of the dullest cars ever. That's why they are so popular on the buisness market; it's a cheaper alternative to a BMW or Audi that has a similar feel inside at half the cost.
Lexus seem to be doing a roaring trade too, as their cars are the most secure on the market.
Fiat's are fairly rubbish on the hole, but Alfas are brilliant when they aren't being towed around on the back of an RAC truck.

huh i didnt know alfa's were rubbish i guess its because we never see one over here
if you want to talk reliability then look at semi trucks which can easily get over 1.5 million miles before needing a overhaul. but mostly the cars you see dead on the side of the road are the ones that look like that if a stiff wind came along the glass windows would blow out and it can be any car
