viper16 wrote:well if you do the SR swap you got alot of stuff to do like:

Rewire the whole Car
convert to the correct OBD System
Custom Engine Mounts
New suspension to handle the weight
Chassis modifications to fit the engine
Custon radiator
Custom 3in Mandrel bent Exhaust
Piggy Back ECU
Custom Driveshaft
New differental (yours is prone to break with alot of power)
New Brakes
And probally alot more just with the above mentioned stuff your probally looking at $10-20K in parts and labor
-Wiring loom/ECU will come with the engine
-Both ECUs use OBD1
-Engine mounts are easy
-The SR20 weighs in at around the same as my NA6, and I already have fully adjustable coilovers fitted
-The Rad will be taken from an S14
-The centre section will be the only difficult bit, the manifold will be an uprated SR, and the muffler is likely at this stage to be a Nur spec.
-The S14 ECU will be fine with the loom, although a Power FC w/ commander will be on the cards
-Driveshaft/diff will be from an RX7 (The miata diff isnt actually very good at all, even the Kaaz MX5 diff is poor)
-Brakes will be discs/hoses/fluid...calipers will remain stock for now

$10k is £5k, which is probably about right. Labour costs will hopefully be at a minimum as Im attempting this myself. Furthermore, Im now actively looking for sponsorship on the project to turn this into a 'Time Attack' series car. So far, a few companies have expressed interest in funding/advertising, although are awaiting more details.

On a more currently relevant note, the suspension has been dialled in and has had chance to settle. Two interesting cars on the kill list so far are an Astra VXR, as well as a Type-RA (GC) Impreza.

Nitrous Express is willing to sponsor you. Turbo wise go for a S15 turbo or an HKS GT2835S 56T

Really? Have you been in touch with them? As for the turbo, Ill probably go with a TD06-20G eventually. I liked the feel of the GT28, but the T28R has been very problematic for my friend...

In good news, a company in FL now make SR20 Miata mounts...which pretty much eliminates any difficult labour!

The 1600 block itself is taken from the Mazda 323 GTR, which is turbocharged. :)

As an update, Ive got a test session booked at Blyton airfield in September. Oh, and a pic with the recent weather:

I couldn't see your wheels properly in the previous pics, but they look hot 8) I think I'll get some Rota RBs for the A-dub.

Good choice with the RBs, love those wheels.

The diff will be a Kaaz 2-way, and the transmission will be an FD RX7 box with a shorter final drive.

Late update, lol. I was asked by my employer to work on their stand at a major Japanese drag event, with my car on the stand. Not only did I get paid the equivalent of a weeks wage for doing it, Ive scored free Yokohama tyres when I need them, and heavily discounted Toyo R888s.

wow, but why would you also get discounted TOYOs? Wouldn't they realise that you'd just take the free Yokohamas? Nice score btw
