TNFS:SE was the first for me. Had to visit a friend to play it, because we didn't have a CD-ROM at home... All time favorite: NFS:Porsche, no other NFS game comes even close.

Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit was my first one, but I played older ones than that as well after I enjoyed NFS3.

The first NFS game i did play was the first one released back in 1994, "Need for Speed".

"The original Need for Speed was released for 3DO in 1994 with versions released for the PC (DOS) (1995), PlayStation & SEGA Saturn (1996) following shortly afterwards. Most cars and tracks are available at the beginning of the game, and the objective is to unlock the remaining locked content by winning tournaments. The first version featured chases by police cars which remained a popular theme throughout the series - the so-called Hot Pursuit editions (Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Carbon) have sold better in the marketplace than intervening versions. The initial version also featured an obnoxious opponent who taunted the player if the computer won the race or the player is arrested (if the player is ticketed several times).

The first installment of the NFS series was the series' only serious attempt to provide a realistic simulation of car handling and physics without arcade elements except Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, which is the most realistic. Electronic Arts teamed up with automotive magazine Road & Track to match vehicle behaviour, including the mimicking of the sounds made by the vehicles' gear control levers. The game also contained precise vehicle data with spoken commentary, several "magazine style" images of each car interior and exterior and even short video-clips highlighting the vehicles set to music.

Another version of the game, called The Need for Speed: Special Edition, is based on the 1995 PC release of the game, and was released only for PC CD-ROM in 1996 It featured support for DirectX 2 and TCP/IP networking, two new tracks, and various enhancements in the game engine.

The Need for Speed and its Special Edition are the only games in the series to support DOS, as subsequent releases for the PC only run on Microsoft Windows 95 or above."

I started playing Need for Speed series way back in 1999 (on my AMD K6-2 400Mhz, 128mgs of ram, Voodoo2 2000 16mgs) with the one and only: Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed and it got me hooked, since then, I bough almost all of them.

My Need for Speed collection

- Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit
- Need for Speed 4 High Stakes
- Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed
- Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2
- Need for Speed Underground
- Need for Speed Underground 2
- Need for Speed Most Wanted - Black Edition
- Need for Speed Carbon - Collectors Edition
- Need for Speed ProStreet
Never found the other ones

For me, it all started with NFS II. One of my dad's buddies brought in a computer that needed to be fixed and he also brought the games that came with the computer. Of course, NFS II was one of them and I couldn't put it down.

Then I went with NFS II, and then HS. I played HS for a long while (until HP2 actually came out). I never got into Porsche Unleashed mainly because it was only Porsches. Once the UG era hit, I pretty much tried all of them but Most Wanted was the only one that kept my interest.

I started on HP2(still playing), since then...i got all of them, and beat all of them  .i got two copies for UG2 on PC and PS2, though the PS2 version kinda sucked(not used to controling a car with a controller). The Need for Speeds are the best racing games...

Considering the latest NFSs they're certainly not the greatest racing games of this era. IMO games like MotorStorm, Burnout, Gran Turismo and Midnight Club (especially Los Angeles =P~ ) are way better.

Woops! I realised I've posted here before but I haven't exactly been on-topic. Heh!

My first NFS game was High Stakes, and I loved it. I literally played it 24 hours the first day when I got the game installed in my P3 600MHz computer. Image

I don't understand why people seem to count that as an NFS game... it was actually a Test Drive game. :?

Nvm, I've got my old sources wrong... it's just where Eden Studios was bought out by EA (rofl, old habits die hard,) and they just threw the name on there for publicity.
...I still don't count it. =/

V-Rally? I had that on the PS1, it wasn't even produced by Electronic Arts...
