only thing stopping me from playing it instantly as the patch was released was my graphic card had to break down right before december began, and the 8500GT ....im forced to use it for few days. atleast it runs NFS Underground with nearly perfect smoothness on max details.
I, on the other hand, will not get MW2, because it does not seem interesting.
yeah i did see all the trailers adverts reviews whatever else. but the hype was just so overdone, that i cant bear anything related to this game now. -_-

honestly, MW2 DID live up to the hype... to me at least... and in no way I'm a CoD fanboy... never played 1, never played 2, never played 3, loved Cod4, hated WaW... but that was Treyarch...

the big fuss about the no dedicated server IS annoying, but it's not to the point that the game isn't fun. the singleplayer was breathtakingly good, however short, and the storyline is a little bit over exaggerated, but it was still great, albeit a bit hard to understand for a lot of people... and is always a victim of nitpicking like most other storylines... ALWAYS complaints

multiplayer is just great, lots of fun... and since I have never played CoD4 online *I loved the game for its singleplayer* I didn't have too much of an expectation for it, but it's a change from the other FPS games with all the perks and killstreak rewards making it kind of different, but I'm not great at it... still a sub-1 overall kill death ratio...

now I tried the new patch, drove the Supra a couple of laps... and even tried drifting with it, but it's not THAT good... not really into classic muscles myself, and REALLY hated it since the godawful Undercover Muscle physics that prevented the car from driving properly, I'm REALLY not a big fan of the other additions... and haven't played online for a while, so the team racing, never tried yet...

oh and fixes to the "broken" game mechanics, I haven't played the game for over 30 mins, and it was all spent on the Supra... so I have no idea how they are... but I did notice a slight increase in FPS on my ATI HD4850... probably 9.12 catalyst driver would improve a lot more *from what I hear*

what i didnt like about MW2 was:
singleplayer was too filled with action, and too much...hollywood like? the visual was exagerrated.
it was too short then, i prefer less action and longer games. not a 5 hour extreme portion of action.
and about the multiplayer being fun, i agree multiplayer is good there , but i never buy games just for the multiplayer, it has to have something in singleplayer to keep me too, i dont want to be left alone with boredom when internet breaks down somehow.
im not saying its a bad game, what im saying is, that all that hype around it, and weird actions of Activision killed any anticipation for this game in me , even before it was released.
oh and yes, i gotta play shift for some more because multi player is awaiting.

I got MW2 and for everything that is good about it there is a huge negative. Great fun, when the service manages to connect, and the host isn't in the USA, and there are no hackers in, and.....
Doesn't stop me from being near the top, but it's just annoying that every game is a lottery. Why not use the tried and tested dedicated server method which just WORKS. Then the removal of the command line for PC? And the removal of mods for the PC? Come on just cos you got mega sales on the other platforms doesn't mean you drop support for the PC's more advanced capabilities. Hell they would have got even more sales had they included those on the PC and left matchmaking to the console n00bs.

The SP is non-existent and pretty crap actually. Shallow story, and relies on people having played the original MW to understand what's going on.

Back to SHIFT, well not much to say really. It's installed. I don't enjoy racing in it. And instead I'm playing DiRT 2 and loving it :D
Cars handle perfectly (if slightly arcadey), though the gravity is too light and the cars bounce too easily off objects. Car selection isn't too bad, though limited again and having odd choices in some categories (Eclipse in WRC???). But despite it's flaws it's plain fun and enjoyable racing. MP is even great though a couple of bots wouldn't go amiss ;)

Sorry SHIFT but it looks like you just missed the F out an ended up SHI*T.

finally tried out the 1.02 patch and Shift is entirely different game for me now.
runs way smoother, it was smooth before, but not THAT good.
additional cars are all nice, only they all are tier 2 vehicles so unfortunately they arent going to be used alot because of Lotus Elise 111r being stupidly good and in tier 2. Supra seems to be better than all other cars, mainly because it has same top speed and acceleration(very minor differences) and way better handling due to being far lighter car.
Muscle cars were fun to drive, and far more fun than the new muscles.
all the bugs it was promised to us to fix were fixed, another patch or two with this much bug fixing and the game is gonna be perfectly patched up.
the only thing im wondering about is why did they make the cars appear in your garage instantly instead of making them buyable from the carlot, and why do they start with pre-selected liveries on them. of course you can change it to stock(normal color) but its rather strange. Overall i say the patch was a success.

Well my place got burgled a couple days back and both PS3's went, along with a large coin tin, half a bottle of Coke and strangely, my underarm deodorant. Go figure.

No PS3 means no Shift around here, but to be honest, I was just about done with it anyway. These days I find myself messing about in Most Wanted and Underground 2 on PC mostly, looking for the good ol' days perhaps..

Note to self: Buy more deodorant.

Man, that sucks. Being robbed is one of the worst things it can happen. :( Anyway you can get SHIFT on PC if you want. It comes cheaper than buying another PS3... and I would like to kick your ass on a race! :P

Recently I've been playing SHIFT again. The fact that now I own the original version as something to do with that lol. I tried some online races but things didn't go too well. I can drive well and I could have won most races if some idiot noob wouldn't have crashed on me on purpose. Damn that pisses me off so much... gladly I did 2 or 3 races were people actually raced, and it was quite fun. =D>

Then I lost some time configuring 4 cars just for online racing, one for each rating. For unrestricted races I just take my Murcielago. :D

My choices were the 240SX (4.00), Evolution IX (6.00), Evolution X (10.00) and GT-R (R35) V-Spec (14.00).

Link to zip of savegame with cars upgraded and tuned for online racing:

http://rcgldr.net/nfss/nfss.zip

You use the savegame as is, or as a guide for choosing cars, parts, and tuning.

The cars in this save are:

4.0 - MX5
6.0 - Cobalt SS - FWD, it oversteers with lift throttle, recovers when you add throttle back.
10.0 - 1967 Corvette (one of the DLC cars)
14.0 - GTR Spec V (also Camaro SS as altnernative with high downforce)
unrestricted - Zonda R (also Murc and Z06 as alternative with high downforce)

Well even if I don't have Shift this is possible. My times are all posted to the NFSUnlimited Leaderboards - sign up, do some ranked races online and very soon you can show just how fast you are.. :)

I already signed up to the leaderboards. :D

And I've been playing online lately, things are good, I win most of the times lol. And sometimes I lose because people crash on me on the last lap... ahh!

I still need to figure out how to tune my cars. I've been using some setups from here, but I didn't manage to get the right car yet. Especially for the 10.00 rating, I'm using Terronium's Evo IX and the car is damn good, but yesterday some folks with a Shelby GT-500 managed to beat me. Their cars were a bit faster than mine... so now I'm focused on getting a nice GT-500 for tracks with long straights like Road America, while keeping the Evo IX for more curvy tracks.

I'm still trying to figure out a good car for the 4.00 and 6.00 rating. The biggest problem is the tuning, I have no idea of what most sliders do. So I don't even touch them... #-o

It's true what they say: "There's always someone faster." :)

For 4.00, try MX-5, Escort, Golf. For 6.00, try Cobalt, Civic, Evo X.

"There's always someone faster."

That's for sure. :D But I don't mind losing, IF it's a fair race. However, if someone has a better car... I want to have an even better one lol. Thanks to rcgldr I now have 3 more great cars and so far I've won about 125 races and lost only 21... not bad. :D

4.00: Mazda MX-5, slightly altered by me. Even when starting on the back of the pack, I manage to get in front really fast, and unless I don't drive good, I always win. I have yet to find anyone with a better car. They get close... but that's it. :P

6.00: Chevrolet Cobalt SS - Same as above, it's a great car. Likes to slide on the corners. :D

10.00: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - this old thing is capable of a dragster-like start, has great acceleration and a very good top speed. The brakes aren't the best, but they aren't bad either, especially when you think that the car is from 1971. Likes to slide a bit too much, I'm still trying to fix that.

14.00: Nissan GT-R SpecV (R35) - I got the setup for this car from here, then tuned it a bit to perform better. Nice machine, and very beautiful (without bodykit). However, most people seem to use this car online... so it's more about the driver than the car.

Unrestricted: Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 - tuned according to Bojan's setup. This car takes off like a jet fighter on an aircraft carrier. Top speed is around 320 km/h; it brakes in a blink of an eye and slides through corners nicely. I don't even care about the Zonda now. Murciélago FTW!

I'd say it's more about who has the better tuning for their driving style...

because 14.00 isn't the max the car can do, so there are always compromises... and depending on how you drive, the parts you'd omit would be different... so it can actually create quite a big difference between the same car

I'm glad you like the car :)
I don't think it's too fast on the tracks with longer straights, but try it on the short and tight tracks, like both ebisus, autopolis lakeside and willow horse thief. And accelerate in corners, the AWD will pull you into the corner :)

Otherwise I'm taking a break from shift right now. Trying some other games, but I'll probably return with some hotlapping next year.

My driving style is simple: go as fast as you can, brake as late as you can, go around the corners as fast as you can and follow the perfect racing line for maximum speed.

Yeah I know that 14.00 isn't the max the car can do, and I did modify a few settings on the Nissan to make it more "friendly" to me. It worked good, I guess.

@Bojan: That setup is amazing, really. The top speed is very good, don't worry about it. I was racing at Nordschleife the other day and there was a guy with a Zonda R right in front of me, about 1 second or so. During the straight I managed to pass him... and I won. :P A top speed of ~320 km/h is very good.

i'm driving Supra in tier 2 most of time because it looks so sexy :D and upon tuning it changes gears like F1 vehicle....
anyway, now that bouncing is gone i may try and get that last corner on Nordschleife and actually try to drive some of the parts full speed where i had to slow down because of bouncey stuff happening.

Since patch 1.02, for 14.0 the Lamborghini Gallardo LP540 is faster than SpecV. Even with max downforce it can reach over 300 kph.

Unrestricted - Zonda R with near zero downforce still fastest overall. I set LP640 to max downforce for shorter tracks, but some use it with low downforce at Road America. Zonda R is faster for me though.

I don't see many people with Gallardos online. Last time I raced against one, I won fair easily. The guy was a good driver, but the car wasn't properly tuned, so my Nissan didn't have much trouble. He started in front of me and for a moment I thought "this guy's faster than me", but then my car quickly matched his acceleration and one gear later I was already in front of him.

Gonna try your Gallardo and see how good it is. I really think the GT-R (R35) I have is a hell of a ride, dunno if the Lamborghini will beat it. I hope it beats, because I honestly prefer to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo than a Nissan GT-R (R35). I cannot say it's my preferred car... I always avoided it. And this one, the SpecV, has the wheel on the right side, so driving in the cockpit is impossible for me. :?

As for the Zonda R, I love the car, but seriously, the Murciélago LP640 that Bojan created is just perfect! That car is awesome in every aspect, and very, very beautiful. Plus, I've been driving that car since I reached Tier 3, so I know it inside out. The Zonda R not so good, even though I have done a few kms on it already. Even if the Zonda is better, I still prefer the LP640. IMO it's a better car, and to be honest, I don't really care about breaking records or being faster 0.05 seconds. I race for fun, and to win too, and to be good, but record breaking isn't really my thing. Sometimes I go for the record, but most of the time I just race well and get in front of everyone. A clean, fair, exciting race is far more important to me than shaving seconds off my lap times. :)

For example, last night I set up a one lap race at Nordschleife, against another guy. The car? Maserati MC12 GT1. Did I made a good lap time? Yes. But breaking my own record didn't feel as good as the extreme pressure that I felt during the entire race, because the other guy was always on my rear mirror. I knew that a single mistake was enough to lose, so I've driven so damn fast and perfectly... something that only happens when you know that the car behind you is being driven by a human. The AI doesn't give me this feeling, not even time attack. I reached the end with my hands sweating lol.

@rcgldr: I tested your Gallardo last night, and it was... weird lol. Dunno why, but I wasn't "feeling" the car, even after some 15 laps at Donington GP (my favourite track to test cars after Nordschleife). I didn't have the opportunity to race with it online, no one was hosting a 14.00 rating race and it was late already.

I think I'll stick to the Nissan. The Gallardo has something weird... I'm still figuring out what is it. But I don't like it, and my lap times were pretty bad. :\

i got forza 3 for myself as a christmas present and i felt like i completely wasted my money when compared to SHIFT. It's almost as if forza is more indepth simulator but there is no head bob or blur vision or any intense feeling that you are going 200 mph, it just looks like your in a red radio wagon like any other arcade racer. SHIFT is THE best racing game i have ever played and EA is totally going in right direction with this game!
