I guess I am going to try it again with my Wannabe Mine's R34 Skyline, all about engine response on that.

yeah i tried and tried on a mag race and failed multiple times, got angry, calmed down,and found a way. just start in a good position, backup (tap the [] button) keep tapping it until it says to press up. then i got it (with a supra!)
