OK . . . I just ordered a cheap generic mp3/mp4 player off eBay. I don't know if it's any good cos it hasn't come yet

It has a 1gb flash memory (i hope), ability to play music and videos (the screen is tiny but meh) and it cost me AU$130.

I'm first one with a MiniDisc. Bought it aprox. five years ago. I'm still happy with it and have no need change for while.

@ bogan - what the heck is an OLCD?...

@Cpt.Razkit - so you got the new ipod hey, lucky you. Just dont do what my 2 friends did; went through 5 brand new ipods within a 6 month period, all covered my warranty. i've dubbed them the 'anti-pods'.
and btw whats wrong with itunes?..its the best media player i've ever used;neat, stable and the visualisations are off the hook!

Yeah I think it's supposed to be OLED, which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode.

But I bet it's just an LCD

I have a 30gb Zen Extra, for around the house.. hook up to the car etc.
and a 1 GB one I use for the gym and running. The Hard Drive based ones take a huge beating when jostled... that is why the older Ipod comercials crack me up ... knowing that they are destroying their over priced mp3 players with all the dancing and jumping.

However I also recently bought the headphone conversion kit for my XM roady2 satelite radio. That has been getting a lot of use lately.

I am now a proud owner of this:

I wasn't really in the market for an mp3 player but in a week I'm going to Dominican Republic on vacation and since none of my friends are going (parents won't let them because it's during school days), so I decided I needed something to keep me entertained for the most part.

Awesome little thing. Easy to navigate and you don't need to install any extra programs since it uses WMP10 for sync. Haven't had any problems yet.

I was wondering if I should get this mp3 player.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 2653038580
Im against ipod cause they suck big time and i know i'll probably get flamed for saying that but my budget isnt big enough to get one.And I know the memory isnt too big but i can compress a song to about 2 or 3mb while still keeping all quality and a movie to about 150mb while still keeping all quality, so other than the memory is this something worth getting.

Is it just me or is the selection of mp3 players kind of crappy in America. I was very surprised at the limited number of mp3 players (both flash and hard drive). Go to http://www.bestbuy.ca and you'll see the selection is much broader than on http://www.bestbuy.com.

If you don't want video...I'd say the iRiver H10 (5/6/20 GB) are a good choice. They come in grey/white/blue/red (sexiest). They come with protective case, AC adapter that plugs into the outlet (unlike Apple where you need to pay extra). It comes with voice recorder, FM, photo viewer, text viewer...I say MUCH better than the iPod Nano.

One problem is that the battery life is not as great. You can probably get about 6- - 7 hours on 192 kbps songs and with LCD shut off. On the positive side, the battery is detachable and replaceable.

If you want video...then your best bet would be the iPod. The Samsung has only 512 mb. Honestly, no matter how much you can compress...that's very limited space for a video player. You can also wait a little bit longer to gether more money and maybe the iPod may be on sale (highly doubtful)

The reason why Im suggesting this is because I want something different because just about every single person I know has a stupid ipod and i kinda wanna be different than everyone else. But since i wont have enough money to get anything till i get my rebate from sumthin else i bought from bestbuy i should have enough money to get something better.

I hate shuffles because you have Limited control on what songs you can listen to.. Imagine you want to hear a certain song.. Shuffling through Hundreds of mp3s just to find it sucks bumbum.

You dont have to have it on shuffle if you dont want to... you can have it in order if you want.

If you're a bit short on cash, forget the psp and ipod and get the W800i. You get awesome MP3 playback capabilities, pretty good games,a very decent camera... and a phone
