The Crossride wheels are pretty decent wheels specially for the price. and they are both dics and rimbrake compatible. and they look pretty.

The XT cassette is a still strong, I used 2 of them before (earlier models with a 4 arm spider) and they held it all just fine.

Carcrazy, you can't drift with a bike, you can only skid it and that's something completely diffirent, making burnouts is pretty much impossible also, I seen people do it on YouTube but that's all on a slippery floor and with zero to no weight on the rear tire, but it's very hard to do and it's hardly "burning"

I decided to go with Rapidfire, btw. Any major differences between LX and XT? I'm currently looking at the Deore LX SL-M570, as someone overbid me by quite a lot on some XT Rapidfires.

And yawn.. I'm a cheapskate anyway, I'll go with cheaper components if prices get too high. It's going towards the 400 real quickly. :') Might go Deore if it's too expensive for my likings, what's the main difference between the different Deore groups?

I bought a complete LX group for 200 euro (excl wheels that is) but all this was included:

- Dual Control shiftersbrake combo (V-Brake)
- V-brakes (front and rear)
- Front Derailleur (1 size fits all)
- Rear Derailleur
- Hollowtech II crankset with BB
- Chain
- Cassette

I used it on my bike I go to work with.

If you're not already searching there, search the German Ebay, they got ALOT more stuff then on the Dutch one and it's alot better priced, I got my complete set there also.

After just a few mins of searching I found this:
http://cgi.ebay.de/SHIMANO-DEORE-LX-200 ... dZViewItem
249 excl shipping, a complete LX group with rapidfires and seperate brakelevers.
it got everything as above.
together with this wheelset:
http://cgi.ebay.de/26-Laufradsatz-SHIMA ... dZViewItem
your done under 400 euro incl shipping.

Look and that under 5 minutes

Damn, should've looked on the German eBay earlier. I thought the results would be the same on the Dutch eBay. :|

And I just won an auction with Avid SD7 brakelevers.. If I had typed ''SD 7'' with the 7 seperated in the search, I could've gotten the levers together with V-brakes for around the same price, but I didn't notice auctions like that until I won the auction with the levers only.

Stig, do you know the LX M572 crankset is any good? It doesn't use the integrated BB it seems. What's the difference between Hollowtech and Hollowtech II?

Best is to find an online bike store that has wheels. Look for some good wheels, and see if there are any auctions on eBay selling them.

Carcrazy maybe try your LBS (local Bike store)
any bikestore should have 26" tyres with plenty grip. man even big supermarkets have them.

@PsZeta:

The diffirence between Hollowtech and Hollowtech II is simply that the HT II is the integrated system with bottombracket and cranks in 1.
Biggest diffirences are:
HTII is:
- lighter
- Stiffer
and it looks really cool with the huge open axle.
If I where you I would get the M580 HTII crankset. it's cheap, easy to work with only need 1! special tool to install the BB cups (you can buy the tool it's pretty cheap, but you can also ask the LBS to do it for you.)
you can install the Crankset with only 1 5mm hexkey (in dutch Imbussleutel) and that's it.
To install a regular crankset and BB you need alot more tools.

The German bikestores are ALOT cheaper then here. why? don't know but it's like that for as long as I know.

here are the 2 LX cranksets:
Shimano Deore LX M572 crankset only (Hollowtech):
Image
Shimano Deore LX M580 Hollowtech II crankset:
Image
(incl axle and BB cups)
http://www.bike24.net/images/products/p04883.jpg (pretty big pic so only as link

Hollowtech is simply the name that Shimano uses for they hollow crankarms, older crankarms are solid alloy or steel arms.
Hollowtech arms are... well hollow

HAHA! I live in da sticks, we dont have any bike stores and the only supermarket we have is walmart.

Also would getting slick tires help me drift the bike without having another blow-out? If not, what would?

Beh, I've won most of the auctions I watched and ordered some stuff too.

Here's what I got on eBay:

LX M570 rear derailleur - EUR 14,12
M540 non-series Hollowtech crankset - EUR 34,71
Avid SD7 levers - EUR 17,05
Used SRAM PG-990 + PC-971 chain - EUR 16,94 (Good buy :p)
LX M580 Rapidfire shifters - EUR 36,95

Total: EUR 117,23

And 2 other components I ordered with dutch online stores:

ES51 bottom bracket - EUR 26,-
M531 Deore front derailleur - EUR 23,-

Which makes a total of EUR 166,23

Good price I'd say.. I'd save around EUR 100 compared to a complete LX group.. And now the biggest downside on getting seperate parts: The total price I spent on eBay is EUR 175,98, which means I spent EUR 58,75 on shipping only. :( Total would be around EUR 220 including bottom bracket and front derailleur.. Bah, I kinda should've went with the LX group. It has some better components and some worse components.

Other stuff I order too:

Shimano M505 wheelset - EUR 99,95
Shimano UN74 bottom bracket removal tool - EUR 14,70
PRO Cassette removal tools - EUR 15,95
Shimano wet chain lube - EUR 5,75
2x Schwalbe inner tubes - EUR 9,-
2x Schwalbe Marathon Supreme - EUR 65,-
BS-04 Veestop - EUR 9,95
Shipping: EUR 10,50

Total: EUR 230,80

Total with eBay seperate parts+shipping: EUR 450,80
Total with Deore LX group with estimated shipping: EUR 480,80

Lol, I got pwned.

True, if you had choosen for a full LX set you would have had a better price, but it's not as much fun as finding everything seperately.

nice price for the SRAM PG990 cassette and chain. wich one is it? the one with the red spider?

Yep. It's a little used, but in good condition.

I'll go for a complete set when my current parts wear out (In one and a half year or so..) What's the difference between cheaper and more expensive frames btw? Better welding and such? Maybe I'll go for a completely self-built bike next year.

I don't think that's going to help..

I don't see why you want to ''powerslide'' a bicycle either.

Pretty much any tire you put on a bike will wear down, they are not meant to be used that way.

It's fun... and funny when it slides out from under you.

Just like doing stoppies, wheelies, or burnouts. Wheelies are hard... does anyone know an easy way to do them?

There are plenty of diffirences in frames. If we just take a hardtail frame you can get them for 100 dollar up to 1500 dollar/euro. for full suspension frames the prices go up even more.

The major diffirences in frames are:
- weight
- stiffness
- comfort
- Looks

and of those 3 the weight is the most important. a cheap hardtail frame can easely be well over 2 kg. while a high performance frame can be around 1 kg.
A cheap frame will most likely be made out of simple alloy, while a expensive frame will be made out of special carbon fibre, scandium, high strenght alloy or titanium.

Looks nice mate, on 1 of my bikes I got the same casssette and it looks nice and works great. You now officially have a professional part on your bike.

As soon as I got my showbike fixed/done, I will make some new pictures of my bikes and post them the way they are now.
