Your parents' ride
Yeah the lower end ones are (*cough* lx *cough*)But the likes of the rsturbo or rs1800 are actually quite quick, and the handy thing about fords is that most parts can be changed with most cars. mine's waiting for a 2.0 focus engine at the mo and the handy thing is its exactly the same engine thats in there jus now so it bolts straight in just have to change the water pump to clear the chassis rail.130bhp standard and the potential of 400bhp ![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)

I think its because the engines are similary(sp) named and ford seem to be badginf their cars/engines wierdly, the engine in the focus rs is badged as a duratec but its a zetec, and the mondeo zetec s is badged as a zetec yet it has a duratec v6 i think its just to make em sound sportier. I dont think hondas have a bad rep i think its all to do with the friendly rivalry

1998-2003 ZX2 Basic Specs:
Engine 2.0L 130-hp Zetec I4
Valve System 16 valve w/VCT
Transmission 5-Speed Manual Overdrive (std.)
4-Speed Auto. Overdrive (opt.)
Horsepower 130@5750 RPM (Except S/R)
Horsepower 143est@5750 RPM (S/R)
Torque (lb-ft) 127@4250 RPM (Except S/R)
Torque (lb-ft) 140est@4250 RPM (S/R)
I like the ZX2 as it isnt a heavily hyped car.. Shoot, there are maybe 1/25th the amount of mods as the Hondas have.

Yeah it is if you have the patience to do it, the 1.8 is cheaper to turbo due to materials the pistons are made of, but to turbocharge the 2.0 it can be quite tempramental. a low boost setup would be easy cos you wouldnt really need to lower the compression ratio. anything over 8psi and youll need low comp pistons which are not cheap(you can use calibra turbo pistons but you need to bore out the block)you do get really good results tho. knocking on the door of 200bhp without too much spent, i could write a whole guide on how to do it on the cheap if you wanted, but that would have 2 be for the tech talk forum ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Well the ZX2 was never really made for upgrades. Its an economy car and there isnt much available for it. Is 130 that bad for stock? There are about as many tips for increasing performnce as there are aftermarket parts for this car.darknight788 wrote:damn only 130 hp i dont know what im runing but stock my car came with 160 but i have added CAI,headers,HFC im guessing im now making 180-190 hp now.

I find 130 for a 2.0 not really good, but then it has most likely also to do with the exhaust regulations.
In general cars in europe with a 2.0 engine have around 140 bhp and are also build with economy in mind.
But on the other hand we use alot of diesels and there are alot of 2.0 commonrail turbo diesels here that have the same amount of power, but are far more fuel efficient. but the average diesel isn't more then a 2.0
The real economy petrol cars in Europe use 1.0 engines or at max a 1.3 with a max of around 90 bhp.
anything of 1.5 or above is considered a normal size of a mid size car (avarage hatchback.)
midsize cars with a 2.0+ engines arent considerd very economical unless it is in a bigger sedan or stationwagen.

Bit optimistic, maybe. CAI will add about 5hp at best, headers 5-10.darknight788 wrote:damn only 130 hp i dont know what im runing but stock my car came with 160 but i have added CAI,headers,HFC im guessing im now making 180-190 hp now.

Depends on the car really. I got 9hp from the headers on a Corrado VR6. Didn't make so much difference on the Audi, haven't changed the M3's yet.korge wrote:I never thought that headers could give double digit increases..
That 07 Honda Si has got a 2L engine and has 197 hp stock! That sounds good to me.
HFC I say 5 max. You don't really start to see power increases til you start moving towards big-bore throttle bodies and the like.

My advice, dont do it, the ecu will add more fuel and you will get borewash, where the fuel washes the oil from the cylinder and will ruin your piston rings, pistons or the bore itself. If that happens its new engine time@ steelsnake , have you ever heard of the IAT hack ? where you take your IAT sensor and replace it with a resistor and then it tells your ECU that the IAT is colder than it actually is. ive thought about doing that but i dont know if i should or not
