if its any interest, the last page "Over clocking and Solutions" says which is the better card..with proof throughout the entire article ;)

I'll leave it to G.digger to find a Nvidia one

EDIT: back to reality..... In all actual fact the 9550 went toe to toe with the fx 5500 and gained an overall lead against it http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/649/1 ... index.html

Hmmm . . . the 9550 has a 128bit thingamajig and better cooling. And the site that Bash posted seems to like the 9550 better as well.

Thanks for your help guys  I know what to get now . . .

Another ATi user..score for me!

I've decided to overclock my ATi 9800se, but researching on the web only confused me further (contradictions was a big issue), so I'm asking here if anyone can help me. Thanx :)

Simple. Get something like ATi tool and increase your core and/or memory speed in relatively small steps. ( 5 MHz or so )

I believe AtiTool has a function to stress the videocard and look if there are any artifacts. Have artifacts? Clock the speed back a bit and try again.

Yeah the 9550 is way better than the FX5200. I have a FX5200 = crap.

The Ati 9200 is better than the nVidia FX5200

FX series = the SUX!

I think it's better if it doesn't have a fan because usually it's the first thing to break down on your gfx-card...

Ok . . . so what this overclocking business all about then?

I tried searching for it but I just found stuff for people who know what they are doing.

Overclocking is similar to adding an after market ECU to a car..increases performance and fps by just changing the current software and increasing the memory. But careful, too much over clocking results in an unstable card and can cause overheating problems.

Ahh . . . i see.

How do you do it? I had a look at the control panel for the card and it doesn't say anything about overclocking :|

Coz its probably not recommended by the factory lol.

Try using the software PSZeTa recommended ATiTool. Its pretty easy to use and understand, and you can refer to a forum if you need any help.

It helps to know the limits of your card.A major tip is to stay 10/20Mhz below the limit to also avoid damage and overheating.

Argh. I did the thing that finds the Max core speed, and it got to 389.12 . . . then the computer locked up.

I guess that wasn't supposed to happen  I'll try it again tomorrow because it takes too damn long.
