You can wire it yourself. All you need it a second break in the ignition wire, a switch and a wire to earth it in case something goes wrong.
It would be possible to wire it so that you didn't need the keys to start the car, but that's a bloody stupid idea.

Exactly, so any idea how much it costs to get it done professionally?

looking at this guide,

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... tarter.htm

it looks like simple enough.

I'm lookig to install the aircraft type switch to turn the juice on, and the button to start.

So would this be correct?

Image

Can I also put an LED next to the switch so it lights up when the switch is engaged? will an LED take 12v?

that diagram looks correct and yes if you have switch rated for 12V and say 20 amp with a LED built in it will work, just remember to fuse it.

and just a question , why do you want push button ignition ?

okay as many of you have read the first car you drove thread you may have noticed i said that my 240 has a blown engine and tranny. it happened when me and my friends were in the local malls parking lot at midnight drifting doing donuts and going from 5th gear to reverse many times. the next day i let my fiend borrow it for a couple hours and he somehow blew the engine and tranny because it will not start at all. So now i have 4 options: Rebuild the KA and get a new tranny, put a CA18 in it, An SR20, or go broke and shoehorn an RB26 in the dang thing. Any help would be appreciated. heres a pic from when i bought it

Few questions:
How does HE think he blew the engine and tranny?
Why did you lend him your car?
Why do you spend your nights drifting around carparks like a ricer?

I say you CA18 or SR20 it and grow up a bit.

I do find alot of the things you say very hard to believe.

Every engine has limitless horsepower; it just depends how much money your willing to throw at it.

I don't believe any of this. You assume that the engine and transmission are blown just because the car won't start? And it's not possible to shift into reverse when you are travelling in 5th, since there are no synchros on reverse. And those pictures are all completely inconsistent, they could be from anywhere.

And even if you're telling the truth, what's the point of a nice new engine when all you're going to do is blow it up again?
Go back to school, it's good for you.

Bingo, especially on the highlighted bit. :P

Anyway, as for the hypothetical engine question for a car which may or may not exist...

CA18DET is a crappy engine. I know because Ive had three of them now. I could spend all day telling you of its shortcomings, but I wont. Low displacement, weak bottom end, small turbo.

The SR20DET is amazing, but not very cost effective for you Yanks.

As far as Im aware, the RB26 hasnt been put into an S13 because it requires too much fabrication. Its been done in an S14A several times though, as the chassis is a bit easier to work with.

KA-T is your best choice there. Fairly high displacement, loads of torque...

Neither of which he was doing, as he doesn't actually own the aforementioned car, drive the aforementioned car or generally know what he's talking about.

Yeah I really wonder how you can shift back and forward from 5th to reverse, unless you are driving like 3 mph.
Cause what Bogan and Grez said the lack of syncros blocks that you can use the reverse gear when you are driving at a certain speed, unless its very low, same goes for the first gear, it's protected from use at high speeds.

It doesn't matter how slow you go, you should never attempt to grab reverse when you are moving forwards. Even a low speeds you will get a nasty 'crunch'.

Also, you should be able to grab first at any speed, it just becomes harder as you go faster. Keep holding the gear lever against first, and eventually it will slot in. I'm not saying you should do it though

with going slow I mean walking speed, so of the scale slow
Ofcourse you can put it into first gear but the gearbox is not making it easy for you, cause you should not do it at high speed, as you know, but your right it can be done with the proper amount of force

An RB26 transplant would probably cost about 3 times what the S13 is worth. Why don't you just get another car?
