A bit off topic, but steelsnake, have you managed to get that amazing machine in your sig to run yet? Looks really great by the way, love the black.

steelsnake00 wrote:Actually, the reduced likelihood of overheating is the flipside of the slow warmup time coin. Because ceramic brakes are, well, ceramic, they dissapate heat faster and have a much higher operating temperature and heat tollerance than normal brakes. However, the flip side of this is the increased warmup time, which yes is fine for track driving where you have warmup time, but you aren't very likely to drive around your block a few times braking occasionally to get your brakes to optimum temperature when your driving on the road. Remember, if ceramic brakes aren't warmed up, they barely bite at all, have vastly increased stopping distances under the same conditions and literally no pedal feel at all.

As for them being so much lighter than standard brakes, yes they're lighter than standard cast steel calipers but most performance calipers are made from aluminuim which makes ceramic brakes only margainly lighter. For example a 12-pot ceramic setup weighs roughly the same as an 8-pot non-ceramic aluminium setup. The stopping power in the wet is utterly dismal, and in the dry there would be very little difference between the ceramic and aluminium brakes. You would actually save more weight swapping your car's seats for lighter ones. If there are so many advantages to using ceramics on the track, then why aren't they used in most forms of motorsport?

Koenigsegg_Rox- drive a car with ceramic brakes, then a car with non-ceramics of the same size and power, and come back and tell me that ceramics are better. You'll have no pedal feel for a few minutes, huge stopping distances and poor bite because the ceramics will take time to warm up, then once they're warm you won't be able to notice much difference. Besides the five grand burning a hole in your pocket which you can invest on much more useful things than ceramic brakes.
Um, you see...the trouble with that is...I'm only 15, and therefore, I can't drive yet .

I don't think you should've pretended that you knew better, especially because you don't even have experience with what driving is. :)

Nope. I've got all the parts for it all to start going back together (exhaust sections, new bottom end, new head, the FI side of things dealt with) but I need to get my bumbum in gear to get her all built up. The motor's going to be rebuild on the 10th.

Nice, don't worry, all that work will be worth it in the end when people walking on the sidewalk are staring at that beauty.

I've been thinking of smoothing the rear bumper pannels and having the exhaust exiting just in front of behind the wheel, either side, but I think that's going to be unnessesary added weight.

Wont that be a bit pointless anyway due to where the engine is? I know Simon Norris only had his exhaust exit behind the front wheel of his Evo to save weight as the Evo is FR.

Yeah, plus the way the EM faces on the 964 means that I'd have to go back on myself, which is utterly pointless. I just thought it would look rather cool ;).
Maybe if I start running a bigger turbo, then I'll get a custom manifold and shift the blower a bit further forward so I can run an air scoop in the left-hand side of the spoiler (much the same as on the 993 GT2)

If you search Porsche 964 on wikipedia, you will see a car very similar to yours. Is it yours by any chance:
Image
EDIT: Nevermind, your rims have a lot more chrome, but it looks like your design is quite common :)

Well, the car looks great the way it is, and I think that going through all that trouble just so you can get your car to look cool isn't worth it.

If you're thinking about rounding out the rear, you might even be able to round out the front as well, and transform your 964 into a 993. A little bit of work, but it will make your car look a few years younger :D

Plus, that car has different plates, and is a left-hooker. ;)

That's a standard Royal Blue 964 II on Turbo monoblocks.
Mine's a Metallic Black 964 II on RH ZW1 993 Turbo splits with 993T brakes ;)

Lol, well an amazing car I must say. My dad's mate has a black porsche. Not sure which one it is. It looks abit like the 911 GT2 but without all of the bodykit.

I have to agree. I love Porches. The 964 series was one of the better ones in my opinion too.

I like the Audi A6.
It holds a certain style to it, but could still kick your bumbum in a race.
It reminds me of the BMW E46.

I love the RS4, but it's not exactly what you'd call sleek.

Has anyone checked out Audi's Le Mans cars (R8 & R10)?

They look real nice...

RS4 - cool. It takes an otherwise fairly useless luxury sedan and makes it good.
Plain old S4, A4 - not as cool, just another luxury sedan.
S3 - not that great, just a hatchback clone (mechanically) of the older TT.
TT - old one: cool, new one: not so much, but still cool.
R8 - cool (except in Carbon where its overuse ruined it).
A6 - not that great, same reason as the plain old S4 and A4.

RS4: the only car I'd pick in its class over an M3.
TT: wasn't too keen on it from pictures, but the old one in roadster form really caught my eye, the new one though... just doesn't look right to me.
R8: The tamed supercar... instant delight
Redisigned R8: OMG, this is f-ing SICK!!!
LeMans cars: performance wise, definitely like the R10, looks, meh.

What do you mean by 'redesigned' R8?

Has anyone seen the pictures of the R8 V12 TDI? The engine was lifted from the R10 Le Mans car, and has 1000nm! And it looks f***ing awesome!

It's closely related but not actually the R10 engine.

yep, good point

If I could get a car, i'd get a so called 'sleeper', like the RS6 (I know, I know, i've said this before)

I like cruising, but also a car that CAN accelerate quick if needed...
Also, if I try to yahoo picture search the R8 TDI, it doesn't come up with the actual car. Why???
