Leaving it out in the sun or on a heat source of some sort. I can't think of any other way it could just happen for no reason.

Hmmm, I know this is a stupid question, but are you trying the DVD version on a CD drive?

Please don't take this as an insult to your intelligence. I've seen some of the most bizarre errors be caused by simple user errors.

Yeah, Carbon has CD versions, but it also has DVD versions. Does the box say PC-CD on the top? If you have the Collector's Edition, it's sure fire DVD only. Only way to get it to work is to get a DVD drive.

Technically, if you use the unofficial patch to patch the regular version to CE, you won't be able to play online, or use any of the other online features available.

But yes, the US version of Carbon regular comes in CDs. Just check the package to make sure it says PC-CD on the top, and not PC-DVD.

It's not their fault that the game does not fit onto a CD, but they probably could have used multiple CD's.

I wish we had the DVD's over here in america.

By the way, disk doctors rock... depending on how bad ur cd is. I fit's just scratched it should fix it. If it's more sever like the scratch has damaged the data on the cd, ur screwed no matter what.

For some reason my hard drive is starting to make a small "chirping" sound. I just want to know if it is a bad thing that my hard drive makes that type of a sound when it never did before. I also noticed that it only makes the sound within the first hour the computer has been on, the rest of the time it may do it occasionally. It's a minor annoyance but I just don't want my HDD to die and have nothing to replace it.

1. Run a thorough scandisk, with surface scans turned on.
2. Check your cable connections, especially the IDE ribbon cable.
3. Download a trial version of HDDLife and run a full diagnostic on your hard drive.

Last time something like that happened to me, my hard drive died within the week. I'd be prepared if I was you.

Mine broke right after begining that. If you have S.M.A.R.T. capabilities on your MoBo I suggest you enable them and let it check the drive.

Also I know this isn't really really computer related but while I was looking at my Newegg.com account they sent me some free gift for no apparent reason on the 2nd. I don't know what it is and there's no tracking # but do they normaly do that?

Im just gonna back-up all my things and wait for it to die. Unfortunately it is not under Newegg's warranty anymore. But it is still covered by the manufacturer. When it dies, I'll just buy a new one, screw waiting 3 or more weeks for a replacement. And Carcrazy, some people have said that they received gifts from Newegg, I should get one for all the trouble Im going through with them. But I guess it's completely random on how they choose who gets a gift. Maybe you sent them an e-mail saying how pleased you are with their service. One of my friends recieved the same gift item number, there was a newegg watch, wallet, and pen in the package.

Oh wow, I can't believe that SMART completely slipped my mind. Yeah, find some sort of SMART reading utility, and use it to read the values from your hard drive. Do a google search on appropriate values that you should be looking for.

I would personally do some research on the three that are in the red zone. Off the top of my head, I don't know what they mean, and I can't tell you if any of those is a sign of imminent drive failure. Google can be your best friend in such cases.

EDIT
I just noticed you have a Western Digital hard drive. In my experience, those are notorious for SMART failures. I would definitely get a backup ready, just in case.

Hmm, now Im getting the same error every time I log onto my computer. Could this have anything do do with the hard drive? Also I forgot to mention that I started hearing the sound around the same time I added another gigabyte of RAM.

Heres the error:

EDIT: A security update caused this problem and I found a fix for it.

You found a fix for what? The error message, or the hard drive noises?

Insert your Windows XP (I'm guessing) and when it comes up tell it to run a repair.
