Re: coolest cars youve seen
jeez that Veyron looks hot, it'd look better with black on red IMO, but still, not the sort of thing you see every day.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
Yeahhh I agree. The owner told me it was a color he saw on a Lambo and he had to have it.TheStig wrote:Who tought a Orange CGT was cool... especially with ORANGE RIMS.... horrible... just plain horrible.
Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the solid red, but I warmed up to it the more I looked at it... I liked the blue/black one I saw in January muuuch better. But that one was chained off and I didn't have the opportunity to get up close like I did with this one.Koenigsegg_Rox wrote:jeez that Veyron looks hot, it'd look better with black on red IMO, but still, not the sort of thing you see every day.
I also spoke to a salesman who has sold 3+ Veyrons! Well, that was last time I talked to him about a year ago. I didn't ask him if the count has gone up, but I'm sure it has at least one or two because the dealership seems to get them in quite often. He was a busy man, so we couldn't chat long, but he was briefly telling me how the Veyron costs over $5 million each to produce, yet they're selling them for ~$1.8 million. He was explaining the reasoning behind this was to gain a reputable brand name for the Volkswagen Group (Bugatti's parent company for those who don't know). We crunched some numbers with very rough estimates assuming VW makes a 40% return on their Golf sales, and decided VW would have to sell at least ~300 Golfs for every Veyron produced and sold in order to break even. After thinking about it more though, I wouldn't think that the reputation of the Veyron would boost sales that much. I know 300 isn't that much, but for every Veyron produced and sold? I mean, most people don't even know what Bugatti is, let alone that Volkswagen is their parent company... Anyways, I just thought that was interesting. I had no idea they were selling Veyrons at that much of a loss! I suppose VDub knows what they're doing, though.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
VW probably just wanted to have something to waste their money on, like the other manufacturers over in F1 land

I serviced a Merc 380SEL today, and although it's a very old and rather horrible car, I did find it quite cool. I'm not a fan of Benzs at all, but this one had a nice bodykit and the sound of the V8 was intoxicating
You can put your foot down to make lots of noise and the car won't go anywhere, giving everyone walking past plenty of time to look.
In recent times I've pulled myself away from muscle cars, but today I was reminded why I used to like them.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
VW/Bugatti didn't build the Veyron for publicity or to be economically viable. They did it because they just can. Very few über-cars make money for the manufacturer. If they did, every company would be building the firetruck.
Building supercars isn't hard, really. Given a decent production centre and a half worthwhile design team, anyone can do it- as evidenced by the number of homebuilt supercars there are, particularly here in the UK. What VW aimed to do was show everyone that a supercar didn't need to be an uncompromising, ballistic machine and it could be just as drivable on a daily basis as an everyday car. Thats where the Veyron is so incredible- the fastest car in the world that any idiot could drive.

Went to California for the past few days (and thus wasn't around during that time, what'd I miss? lol). I saw:
- 2 Saleen S281s (new ones)
- 3 or 4 Lotuses (including one Exige)
- TOO MANY BMWS
- one Shelby GT500
...and quite a few more I can't remember. These aren't necessarily the coolest cars I've seen, but still.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
Saw a orange Lamborgini Gallarado sitting at a insurance company or bank or something once. The guy had it sitting like it was posed for a photo shoot or something but never got to see it move, but seen it several times at that building. Another great car i see all the time is a Camaro RS, older one maybe 1967 or 1968 with the white stripes and blue paint job really nice condition. Prolly the most Jaw dropping car ive seen tho was a new Jaguar XK or the one that looks similar to a aston martin which i thought it was at first ,but it was silver and dark tinted window, was driving in my city. But thats pretty much it really ,I mean ive seen the vipers commonly because I live near seattle and bellvue (rich cities) the Z's and imports are really common here with the russian and asian influence(mostly honda civics tho
) But thats all I have to say for now

Re: coolest cars youve seen
Saw a Honda S2000 probably tuned abit, saw it last week when i went to a job interview.
Sadly i only got 1 picture of it cause a guy was staring at me through a window, so i think it was his car he was checking up on it i guess.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
Hm, are S2000s rare in those parts? I just went to pick up some BK, and I saw about 8.
Freakin' love those cars, though. I'd love to get one myself someday.

I think S2000's are very feminine personally. Good on a track, but too twitchy and unstable on the road IMHO.

Re: coolest cars youve seen
I was actually gonna mention that... Every time I mention my liking of S2000s, someone makes a joke regarding my sexuality. But I wouldn't let its reputation as a 'chick car' stop me from purchasing one. Most people seem to think any sporty, convertible car is a 'chick car'. Same deal with the MX-5; another proper RWD sports car that I would enjoy owning despite its 'chick car' rep. Much rather own the Honda, though.

Personally, I agree; out of all almost-roadster/convertible-only cars I can think of right now (Miata, Z3/Z4, Mercedes-Benz roadsters, Porsche Boxster, Toyota MR-S, etc.), I think it's one of the least feminine (no offense Grez, your Miata is awesome).speed_man wrote:i dont relly think its a chick car at all
Anyways, back on topic: I saw a Maserati something-or-other (probably GranTurismo) today; didn't take any pics, sorry.

Your think an MR-S or Z4 looks more feminine than an S2000? I quite like the look of S2000s, although I've never driven one. It just needs a hardtop
The MR-S imo is ugly as hell, but I would still love to have one.

Oh, come on! A MR-S? Psh, call me mad... And maybe the Z4 is a bit manlier, but as long as you don't tell me a Z3 is less feminine than a S2000...steelsnake00 wrote: Your think an MR-S or Z4 looks more feminine than an S2000? You're mad
Yes indeed. That would be pretty high on my priority list if I ever owned one... Maybe save an extra $4k+ for a Spoon hardtop, no big deal.boganbusman wrote:It just needs a hardtop

Honestly, the Z4 is only SLIGHTLY below the S2000 (and would probably come next on my list of "least feminine-looking roadsters"). I listed it because I sort of grouped it with the Z3. The whole ranking (for me at least) looks something like this:
1. Saleen S281 Supercharged Speedster
2. Viper SRT10 Roadster
3. Ferrari F430 Spider / 360 Spider (I'm not kidding)
4. Honda S2000
5. BMW Z4M Roadster
Cars with targa tops aren't included on the list, however - if they were, the CCX and Toyota Supra JZA80 would be the first two.

360 spiders are really efeminite. The 430 isn't much better. As for the SRT-10 and Saleen- who wants an american cabriolet?
