NFS:MW Crash to Desktop

I've been playing for a while now, and until this it's run smoothly...
The game keeps crashing to the desktop at the very end of a pursuit. Doesn't happen if I get busted, only when I get away. And it doesn't happen every time - only on long pursuits. The highest bounty I've gotten away with was 1,600,000, but every pursuit between 2,000,000 to 6,800,000 has crashed the game (though I've been busted with 8,000,000+ and it didn't crash).
The only thing more annoying than this happening at the end of a 25-minute chase is knowing from the very start that it's going to happen...
Specs:
Athlon64 3000+
ATi X800 256MB
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
1GB PC3200 (Dual Channel) + 1.5GB Virtual

Difficult to diagnose, if the game has been working before. Could be that some files have gotten corrupted. Have you tried re-installing the game? How about the 1.3 update?

I think the only reason I'd never encountered this before is because I'd never been in a 2,000,000 bounty chase before. But very difficult to diagnose nonetheless... I was just hoping someone had seen it before (and fixed it

).
Yes, 1.3 patch installed.
Downloading Catalyst 6.1 now (currently using 5.13), though it doesn't seem like a video problem, so I'm not expecting much...
I'll give reinstalling a try. Probably just about due for a Windows reinstall as well... maybe that'll help.

Did you get the Visual C++ debug error, or something like that?

No error, just straight to the desktop.

I have the same problem and actually this is no crash, the game exits cleanly, just at a totally inappropriate time, not got a clue why it happens. I get about 2 in 5 pursuits fail like this, I've managed to get to 20 million bounty on one pursuit. Now one thing I noticed is that my machine auto-busts you after 1h, this doesn't seem to be consistent with other peoples findings, also my cars top speeds seem to be off compared to other peoples as well.
fwiw here is my system specs:
Athlon 64 3800+ (S939 2.4GHz)
Abit AN8 (std)
HIS Radeon X800 XL 256MB (also used a 7800GTX 512MB and had the same problem, so it isn't graphics related)
2GB PC3200+ (low latency)
WD Raptor 74GB
LGE DVD burner
Creatives Audigy 2 ES
Antec NeoPower

I use to have this problem. After long pursuits, it just jumps to desktop. It's really bad having this feeling in a pursuit that it'll crash after this pursuit.

Desperate for a solution, I went digging through the registry. I changed the value of the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/EA GAMES/Need For Speed Most Wanted|Swapsize from 73,400,320 to 200,000,000 and haven't had a crash since. Could just be blind luck... I've got no idea whether this crash is in any way memory-related. Seems possible though, since the length of the pursuit is
definitely a factor.
But at least I finally finished Challenge 60

(15min pursuit in a white Porsche - crashed the last 10 times I finished it...)

No problem. Not sure if it actually does anything - I might just have been lucky those couple of times. I'll let you know how it goes once I've tested it some more.
Not now though... it's too hot today...

Have finished the game to 100% and have noticed the same crashes when i reach the 6 000 000 mark and evade in a hide spot, i have version 1.3 Swedish/European.
I have done the fixes for the swap file and the catchesize but still the problem arise, the weird thing is that some times it works just fine and i have got over 10 000 000.

Damn, I was really hoping I'd found a solution...
Hadn't had a crash yet, but I haven't been playing it much (it's been too hot down here to be sitting in front of a computer... ~43C/110F

)

The temperature is just fine, will try to enable motion blur again and see whats happening.

Looks like it is when you disable the blur that makes the game crash, did just try to enable it again and it didn't crash when i got 6 130 000 something.

How many times have you tried it though? If it's just once or twice, maybe you got lucky... like I did with the SwapSize.
I thought it could be overheating at first as well, but CPU/GPU temps are 34/54C while playing (A64 3000+ / ATi X800)

I recently got a new pc, installed MW and its patch on it, and watched it crash in my face 15 minutes later.
This happens every time I play this game.
I've even tried lowering the gfx levels (thinking that the card couldn't handle it) but it doesnt matter what i change, the game will crash 15 mins later.
After crashing, the computer automatically does a full restart and loads with the very obsure message " Your computer has recovered from a serious error". Anyone know what's going on?
btw my pc specs are:
AMD 64 3700
Nvidia 6600 GT
1GB RAM
EDIT : could it be the patch?

Your computer should definately be able to handle anything MW can throw at it, except the whole crashing part, blame EA for that. Dunno what to tell you, a lot of people seem to have the same problem but no solution.

Perhaps it's the patch...the 1.3 patch
