Must Have Software

Post by VladikRudy0017 »

List all the downloaded software you use everyday that is essential to your computer. Just post the software you use and like and think is good.. whether it has to do with secuirity or other apps.

1. Mozilla Firefox
2. Google Earth
3. Winamp
4. Kerio Personal Firewall
5. Steam
6. AIM
7. Norton Antivirus Corporote Edition
8. Limewire Lite
9. WinRAR

Just help me put out a list of apps that would help make your computer either faster, cooler, safer or just fun.

Really? I wouldn't dream of NOT having one (and firewall). I've seen enough computers with none or outdated protection that are literally full (hundreds of viruses, trojans, generic malware) of crap.

Unless you have no internet connectio (or are on dialup).

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed at or something stupid, but I just maintain my computer myself. I check the registry and processes running fairly often, and if anything is amiss, I fix it myself. And I always make a system restore point before downloading/installing software.

I've no doubt you're well capable of maintaining your system, but still imo simply preventing infections/malware from getting into your system in the first place is a much better way than just cleaning them up if some happens to find its way in to the system.

There a plenty of free software around for the task(s) too.

That's why it's on my top 10 list of must-have software. It's great, you can free up tons of space, removes old, un-used registry files and totaly defrags the registry...

Yes, it's still beta, and I suggest you wait till they work the bugs out. Currently, the mandatory update checker is a major resource hog.

I guess I could try to list my essentials...

In no particular order of importance:

0) Windows XP
1) Firefox & Thunderbird (for online activities)
2) Sygate Personal Firewall & AVG Antivirus (security)
3) Paint Shop Pro X (this where only the fancy stuff gets finalized)
4) 3DS Max 7 (creativity run amok)
5) Autocad 2006 (not my own though, workplace license which I need for work purposes every day)
6) Microsoft Office (can't really live without it even if I might want to...)
7) Kiss PC-Link (acts as a mediaserver via wlan for my Kiss DP600 media player in the living room)
8 ) Nero Suite (for creating backups)
9) NFS games (naturally)
