I don't know why people want to be loyal to a company. It's never good for your wallet.
Anyway, started with a g2? That's nothing. I've started with tnt2. :D Actually that was my second graphics card, I don't know the first one.

If you check the first page of this thread, you'll see that almost 3 years ago I was with nVidia but since their fiasco with the 8600M GT and other mobile cards frying out, I switched to ATI. I'm not even going to consider buying a laptop that has an nVidia card, it has to be ATI.

I'm in a bit of a pickle with it. I've always been a strong believer in Intel with nVidia and AMD with ATI (for whatever reason it may be,) but with this most recent build (that I'm still working on,) I've got an AMD processor, and have found soem great deals on nVidia cards.

I may just squeeze another $100 out and get a 4850 though.

Personally, I'm partial to nVidia still. Professionally, I'll use whatever give me the performance I know I can get without going out of the customer's given budget. :P

Couldn't care less whether it has nVidia or ATi written on it. If it performs right for the right price, I'll buy it.

nVidia. ATI's Linux drivers are too sucky.

That's sadly true, however I've heard the newer nVidia cards have problems in Linux too (or do they just perform worse, I don't remember exactly). And the open source ATI drivers are already better in 2D. There is no 3D support yet tho'.

Gee, it's just the twenty-first century... who needs 3D support now-adays?

You must understand that the open source drivers are pretty fresh. ATI's drivers have 3D support of course, but they are kind of sucky.

There's a reason why open source operating systems are free.

Because if they weren't free than they couldn't be open source...

Actually, Linux rules, I've just got some problems with compiz fusion because of the ATI drivers. But, I can live without it, if everyone else can live without compiz fusion, so can I.

Yeah, linux is more for work rather than play I find. I use Red Hat at school, an some things are pretty handy, but then some things are twice as complicated than XP, lol. And so far I've done nothing that I couldn't do in Windows using open source software.

Maybe, but there are still many things Windows can do that Linux doesn't.
Take a BSOD, for instance.

Na, seriously... linux is the shiz. It just can be way to complicated to do simple things sometimes.

I like Linux (GNU/LINUX, before someone gets annoying, I just like to say Linux, because it's shorter and simpler) and I like the idea of open-source. But it is sad that most big companies don't want to support it. Contrary to the popular belief, I find Linux (with KDE) pretty simple and easy to use. But for some people somethings just won't work right. But it's same in Windows and at least in Linux you can fix stuff and at least stuff doesn't go bad for no reason.

But enough about Linux, this is getting too off-topic.

My friend's Radeon 9800PRO was failing for a while because their drivers sucked. His screen was flashing, couldn't play games, etc. FAIL.

Really? The 9.1 and newer Catalyst versions are a vast improvement. My NFS: Undercover used to crash because of the ATI driver but ever since updating to the newest ones, no more problems. So yeah, I won't consider ever buying an Nvidia card now, gone are the days of Nvida dominance.
