Official Shift Discussion Thread (Half-Life 2)

I would like to welcome you to the thread for Shift (Half Life 2). I am thankful to Bojan for giving the opportunity to post and discuss this game with the NFS community.

There is no game like Shift in the Half-Life 2 modding community so we are proud that you can be a part of the experience. If you have any suggestions for the game feel free to post your ideas. I love to read what others have to say. That is what makes Shift so great. Its tailored to the player and not a corporate deadline.

Shift is a private project that seeks to create a fun racing game on the HalfLife2 Source engine. This means that this game will be available to anyone who owns a Source engine game.

The theme of Shift is based around illegal street racing and in a way mimics NFS Underground in reference. So if you like any of the pre NFS Underground games, you will appreciate AHR.

More information regarding gameplay and story will be released soon.

Got the modding buzz hey? :P

Just to be an bumbumhead I have a couple of questions.

1. How does this differ from the recent NFS games (Underground/Most Wanted and Carbon) as well as other similar genres, without using the words, "More" or "realism"

2. What kinds of jobs can you actually do and do they involve in terms of player activity.

By the way good luck with the mod. :D

Realism? Well to start..... Open world races that use a checkpoint system (similar to Midnight club series), everything is already unlocked.. As in you dont have to unlock things in this game, (some items may require you know the right people or accomplish certain tasks) and finally, Hopefully over 120 car models + 40 imports and multiply that by 10 to get the total number of different model cars you can buy in the game.

Cars are sorted by manufacterer, model, year, then trim(GT, Touring, LE, etc). This game will have MUCH variety when it comes to cars. Yes, there will be repeats (99 Mustang and 98 mustang) but it adds to the depth of the game. Closest thing I can think off for you to relate this is the Porsche Unleashed cars.
Sir Ibi wrote: 2. What kinds of jobs can you actually do and do they involve in terms of player activity.
It will not be a part of the game in terms of the player having to do something, just recieving a daily paycheck and having those certain hours of the gameday skipped (similar to Sims going to work).

Jobs available and paycheck will be different depending on where you live, Downtown, Urban, or Suburban and getting good paying jobs requires you to get contacts and have a certain numbers of previous hours spent at another job prior.

^ Profile for this game. Brand spanking new.

Also, I found a guy who is willing to make the OST for the game.

Myspace

He speciallizes in trance but can make a couple good rock songs. I feel he has the skill as well as the understanding of how I want the mood of this game to be.. This game is going good so far. 8)

Yes, This is my project. So far I got one guy doing an OST for the game and Stig will help out with factual info on the cars. I still need to put together a Dev Team to make the game...

Glad you like my idea though. :)

I really appreciate the interest and support you guys are giving into this mod.

Pretty much, if you can buy the kit in real life, you can buy the kit in the game, but it will probobly be limited by certain popular manufactuers of the kits.

Unless you can code the HL2 engine, make a good looking car model in 3D, or make a texture and map it, I dont know what you can do to help besides spread the word. But if you do know someone who can do what I listed, please ntoify them.

Ive posted this game on several websites and people are Loving the idea and are offering me help to get this game done.

I got GREAT news!!!

AfterHours is starting to pick up now.

I got a guy Im speaking with who has about 4 solid years in the modding scene and is very interested in my game picking up. He has many contacts so looks like this game may get started sooner than you guys may think.

It should be free through steam, not sure. Maybe if we can make a small demo and host it.

Otherwise you will need HL2. Which is only like 20 USD.

Here is the website at the moment. The forum allows for Suggestions plus all the latest development and the games full overview.
