Post by Glopaticki »

What ever happened to Mazdas plans of bringing back the RX7? They stopped at the Series 8 line then a few years later said it will be commin back????? I ain't a huge fan of the Japanese cars but the RX7 would be the only car i like i guess and i just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about it?

Who cares? The RX only has the reputation it's got anyway because because of it's portrayal in the media.
If they do release another one, they should make the TT Rotary a little easier to look after :D
But I don't think this is really thread worthty.

Haven't heard a thing about Mazda bringing out another RX-7, which is probably why the RX-8 was released.

The RX-8 is in no way related to the RX-7, except for its rotary engine.

Got any proof to back that up? The RX-8 you say might not look exactly like an RX-7, but it does look a little bit similar in some places. And plus they have around about the same power outputs.

They're two completely different cars, both built from scratch, completely unrelated to one another beside the name and the type of engine they use.

In no way related as in not built for the same purpose.

...eh? It might have had more to do with the fact it was different to 99% of the car market at the time, looks great, and matched performance with Supras, Skylines and Ferraris despite only displacing 1.3L. As a result, car tax is very cheap.

As for the RX7, the last I heard, Mazda had no plans to continue the range. The RX8 took over the rotary crown (despite being slower), and the next Mazda rotary is likely to replace that.

Wish they'd bring back the FD or FC. Great cars, and the demand is still pretty high.

I meant it's reputation as some kind of God amongst cars. And isn't the displacement on the engine due to the fact it's got a completely different stroke action, and in reality uses roughly as much fuel and oil as an engine considerably larger than it? :P

I've heard a general rule of thumb is you get about the same power from a piston engine as you would a Wankel engine half the size. That can, of course, vary greatly.

There isn't really alot of point, I don't personally think, because it's got the same economy as the larger piston engine and less torque.

The trick to the rotary is that for every revolution of a piston, the rotary has two. In essence, the 13B displaces 2.6 litres in the same time a conventional engine displaces 1.3 litres. However, technically speaking the 13B does still displace 1.3L, hence the tax. Insurance dont look at it that way though. :P

That's the point I was failing to make when I was talking about stroke action :P

Two? I though it was three . . . since the rotor has 3 sides?
