does such a thing exist?

what I am looking for is a program or something that can increase the volume of my pc past 100% to hear a stream which is very hard to hear.

is it possible?

another solution would be to turn of my incredibly annoying, loud fan. which decides to switch itself on when ever I hit play. Can I turn it off?

i don't know of any such software, however maybe you can try downloading a free sound editing software and increase the volume that way?

If I recall correctly, you can boost your output by using the standard Windows Volume Control (Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment) and go into the advanced settings. I'm pretty sure it's in there somewhere :-k

I would check it myself, but the advanced options aren't available on my new computer for some reason. I remeber doing it on my old PC though.

Not just the main sliders, there are more options under [Options > Advanced Options].

Otherwise, there is a program called Audacity that is good for modifying audio files.
