About 700 pounds, if we go by the assumption that the woodchuck will chuck the same amount of wood as he displaces in dirt when digging his den.

But what reasoning do you have to assume that?

Well, if the woodchuck is accustomed to shifting 700 pounds of stuff in one sitting, we can safely estimate that he would chuck 700 pounds of wood (if he could). Seems logical to me anyway.
Edit: actually, he probably wouldn't chuck any wood, since chucking wood has no purpose

Ah, yes, logical. As is your point as to the usefulness of chucking wood. Interesting... very interesting... Perhaps the wood chuck uses wood chucking as a form of self-defense.

Then the amount of wood he chucks would be based simply on his accuracy, and not on his need to chuck wood.

There were once 2 rednecks. Moe and Larry. They loved their 69 Camaro SS. Moe loved it so badly, that he divorced his beloved, yet quite frankly, ugly wife.
One day they drove together on the highway just outside of Long Beach. while Larry drove, Moe kept seeing all these great looking cars. Ferraris,Lamborghinis,Aston Martins, and one immaculate restored Spitfire. This is when Moe came up with a brilliant idea!
"Hey that there Lambo needs a Cheva" moe said with a glint
"sure it does" larry said. With a roll of his eyes

/ he kept driving
"that there Supa needs a Cheva" Moe remarked
"yeah and my scwhinn needs RB26 with a Garrett GT28..."larry hissed
"What the hell....that Lotus elan needs a 402." Moe snarled out the window to the driver
Larry at this point is getting furious but luckly the rumble of the 442 keeps him relaxed...
"What on earth...Stupid Germans that Jetta needs a...
"let me guess...a Chevy big Block Big Bore, i dont give a rat's bum. Now Moe just Shut up and let the companies decide on what to put in their cars!" Larry hollored over the growl of the engine
"Nah i was gonna say a Ford" Moe said calmly
go ahead and roll your eyes in the next upcoming posts. personally i think this is funny.

Ok. There were 3 women stranded on an island in the middle of the sea. A brunette, a redhead and a blonde!
The brunette said 'I bet it is that way to shore.'. It was 20 miles to shore. She swam 5 miles and drowned!
The redhead said 'I bet she made it'. So she swam 10 miles and drowned!
The blonde said 'I bet they made it'. She swam 19 miles, almost all the way. She could just see the shore and she said 'Im tired now' so she swam all the way back!!!

A boy walks up to a bank with is dog... the boy asks a security guard standing outside the door if he can bring his dog in... the officer replies, "Sure, as long as he doesn't make a deposit."
It was funny 2 years ago... lol

That's exactly what i was gonna say. The only riddle even here is "how much could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood," and thats obviously impossible (disproving boganblouseman) since it dosn't say how much in one sitting, it could mean in a lifetime.
BTW today's my B-Day

If a deaf man claps in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Why wouldn't it/he (to both 'riddles')?

Sound is the sensation you experience when your inner ear is articulated by vibrations, usually transmitted through the air.
If there were no people or other creatures in the area, then this sensation was not experienced by anyone, and therefore there was no sound. The air, earth, and other surrounding objects would have been affected by the vibrations, but it cannot be interpreted as sound if no-one was there to hear it.
imo.

Wikipedia wrote:Humans perceive sound by the sense of hearing. By sound, we commonly mean the vibrations that travel through air and are audible to people. However, scientists and engineers use a wider definition of sound that includes low and high frequency vibrations in air that cannot be heard by humans, and vibrations that travel through all forms of matter, gases, liquids, solids, and plasmas.

I did mention "or other creatures". And if a vibration frequency is too high or low for any known creature to hear, it's just not a sound in my opinion.

Re: T E H ~ R I D D L E S

by S2000_Skyline12
Well it would be unknown cause no one would be there to hear it and confirm it

And if there was a sound recorder, but no one to hear it, then what? It would make a sound.

Lan.Evo.III wrote:And if there was a sound recorder, but no one to hear it, then what? It would make a sound.
The recorder will record the vibration that travels through the air, and then it can be played back as sound if someone is listening.
I'm not saying I'm neccessarily right, but it seems logical. Really depends on your definition of sound. I think that sound can only be acknowledged by the sensation of hearing, but others may describe the physical vibration itself as sound.
