Ok so i am thinking of getting a PC soon but not sure my parents tell me that maybe next summer but i still want to be ready if they want to buy it now so here's what i am thinking:

Mobo: ASUS P5KC - 152 Euros
CPU: Intel C2D E6550 - 195 Euros (if prices go down by much i am thinking of a E6850)
RAM: OCZ DDR2 2x512 800Mhz - 65 Euros *2GB optional* (some gamer edition of OCZ don't remember the name)
Gfx card: ASUS EN7300GT SL/HTD - 65 Euros (i currently have a ATi X700 and it does well in games so a 7300GT will do fine)
HDD: Western Digital 250Gb SATA2 16Mb Buffer - 75.5 Euros
DVD: ASUS Lightscribe SATA - 37.1 Euros
Mouse: Logitech G5 or a Saitek 3200 - Both around 50 Euros
Case: G-Alanic GA808ATX8BK450 450W PSU - 46.5 Euros

Total: 690 Euros

The X700 is propably around 30-40% faster than the 7300GT. If at all possible I'd recommend getting atleast a 7600 series card (which are about twice as fast as the 7300 series).

Take a look at this comparison chart, and see what fits your wallet the best. Notice that the 7300GT is almost at the very bottom of this particular chart.

Then i will go with a X1650Pro (XT) they are damn cheap now 70 to 90 Euros and are good (very good in the case of the XT version).
If not i will try to get a X1950XT they are about 165 Euros and are very good but i don't think my wallet is that big.

I must say a friend of mine has a X1950Pro and it runs all the modern games at high res and maximum settings.
