NFSU1: Fastest Offline Circuit Times

Post by GT3x24x7 »

Stumbling around in a rancid, disused corner of the web, I tripped over some videos showing some astounding NFSU circuit lap times, run by a guy named Jeff Reid. Jeff is my new hero.

Right there and then, it occurred to me that there was nowhere on NFS Unlimited where people could post and compare their circuit lap times, and I've set out to change all that. So here it is, the Fastest Offline Circuit Times thread. Go ahead and post your fastest times!!
  • All times should be:

Run Offline - Online times are not reliable.
    Cheat-Free - C'mon, what are ya? A sissy?
10 Laps - To allow the best comparison of race times.
Provide Proof - A snap of the stats screen will do nicely
To kick things off, here are links to the vids I found. Not only is this guy extremely quick, he's also helpful. Jeff has edited a few tips into the vids explaining how to take certain key sections of the tracks, including what car to use and what uniques to run on it. After watching these, I watched em again. And again! Then I couldn't resist the urge to go race. My times dropped immediately!!

^bUmP^!! C'mon people, this is quality posting here!!

btw - the vids range in size from 10Mb to 18Mb. Quite small really, considering the resolution and quality. Might have to look harder at this WMV format..

Well, here's the results of about 60 laps around Olympic - better than 2sec off my previous best, and I owe it all to Jeff!! :D As you can see, there's still plenty of room for improvement, I got the total race time down to about 7:15 on one run. It's not quite sub-40sec yet, but I'll get there!!

Well Ill see.... what times I can make....
but if I get it right... its manual shifting.... ok..
There is one think I don't like in the game...the wall impact... it does not slow you down as much as you good non impact turn.... seeing the explanations in the movies... he even tells you to hit it...
that is against my style to hit the wall....

Yeh I agree, but if that's the way to the fastest time and the game allows it, you can't blame the guy can you? Actually I think you could probably get a better time by not hitting the walls, but I doubt you could be consistent in that...

Try it mate! You won't look back to your 206 for long!!

Reckon I'm topping out on the lap time for Olympic Square - only managed to shave another 0.04 off my PB after countless laps. I did manage a sub- 7:15 overall for 10 laps tho!! Time to try another track methinks!!

Hey all ... 41.47 is about the lowest I can get with my lovely electric Miata. OS, of course. My first round is always a clear trak round to get rid of all the obstacles as stop signs and such, so I can race cleanly the next laps without worrying of bumping into something slowing me down. :p. I must agree with the 206 fella .. bumping into walls sounds like BS. The only way I knew about to get the fastest laps was about racing as clean as possible. What counted on my laps differences was how I cut into that first wide 180 swing, which is all the difference btw 41.xx and 43.xx. The rest of the track is pretty automatic. It's the first time I see someone use the walls as a sling and actually get away with it.

GT, thanks, I drive automatic. I have tryed manual .. but as I am no RL driver ... I'm not really good at minding the shifts while I'm busy dodging oncoming traffic :p
I find practising on free runs with no traffic is the most relaxing gametype NFSU offers. Online play and career is chaotic as hell, and most of the times even when racing at your best, you can't post the same times you post when you're alone. I try as much as possible to avoid anyone and anything both online and in career mode. Partly because it slows down me ... and partly because I find it lame to ram each other to slow each other down. Then offcourse because when you try to ram somebody, you might get him out of course ... but chances are .. you'll get out of course yourself as well.
