Getting XBOX360 Controller for PC?

Is it worth it?
I'm considering it because a LOT of the cases the cars get very hard to drive because I can't choose half throttle, and then it just spins out or outright do a 180 on the spot... and that includes drifting.
I don't want to go for a racing wheel because... it's too big and too expensive, while 360 controller has the triggers where you can sort of half press to accelerate/brake and joysticks to halfturn... which is a LOT better than keyboard.
Also, I could use it for other games, like GTA4 *if I can find my DVD1* and HAWX
