Great, a full map! This one's nice and big, Really loved how they've combined the two!

I personally wasn't a fan of the canyon runs in CARBON, though it was something new in CARBON it had its novelty value.

I guess that would be a good PvP race though, would be really cool :D

Well actually they should have added the canyons as that was the main way back then to get to Palmont from Rockport, in the end of MW, you did the bridge jump and then you went on on a thin winding road, reminiscent of the canyons in Carbon. Only thing is, you couldn't free ride in the canyons so it could take some getting used to. Or maybe we could assume the authorities did away with the canyons and instead built a tunnel.

The devs have since confirmed that the two cities were never connected by the canyons. One of the devs, Eduardo, commented that they were effectively set on oppostite coasts and it just so happens that Carbon starts with you coming in via a canyon. The implication is that Cross had been chasing the main character for a long time - not just a quick jaunt through a connecting canyon. (Source: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/ ... ge#3250342)

Also, some clever people who played the beta searched the program direcotry and found event icon files for canyon runs so there will be canyon races at some point, they've just not been implemented at this stage. (Source: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/ ... ge#3251305)

All in all, I think they're doing an awesome job of merging these maps at the moment, and cant wait to see how the canyons will be implemented! :)

Canyon races O.o

Good to see them included, it's a great design choice for a NFS MMO!

Canyon races are pretty sweet overall (drifts aren't so frustrating after all), so yeah it's a nice touch. I hope they include some revamped canyon duel system or something.

What I liked about the canyons were the hairpins. Several courses in MW / Carbon / Undercover had little braking, and that's the point of racing: going fast then brake and take corners.

The canyons were something new for Carbon so maybe they'll implement it later on in the game so that those who liked the canyons won't be left out.

Well if they would put it in for the people who liked them why couldn't you just have them from the start? It'll be some great 1 on 1 PvP (I love the idea even though I suck at canyon duels xD)

Also, just thinking, would they still have the car lots that you can drive to and interact with, as well as like the performance and visual shops, cos it felt stupid to buy all the parts at your safe house in Carbon, so it'd be nice if they could edit the Carbon map slightly and put in car lots and performance/visual shops, and just keep the one's from MW.

EDIT: Oh, and just another idea, anyone up for a NFSUnlimited racing clan when the game comes out? Because I can start a topic closer to the release date when we know more info on the ingame clans/groups and we can see how many people are interested :)

It felt stupid to me to have to drive to four different places to embellish or ruin a car's looks.

That's weird, because I thought that people who play NFS actually enjoy driving to different places, and the vast majority also enjoy embellishing (or in some sad cases, ruining xD ) their car's looks, so I can't see how it would be stupid :)

It felt stupid to me that all cars were in JUST ONE CAR LOT. imagine that. Lamborghinis, Fords, Dodges, Toyotas, Nissans, Mazdas, Aston Martins, Porsches, and whatever you damn well please in ONE car lot... not to mention that the car lots all contained same cars.
buying parts in safe house seems stupid too. you pay for something you have at your safe house, right there...yes there! in the closet! now pay yourself 500$ so you can fit it in, not to mention that your character is a street racer, a mechanic too.

TDU did a good job of having Car Lots for each brand, but that only worked because the game space was MASSIVE. To have heaps of car lots over the NFS map would be highly impractical.

Maybe you could have an Exotic showroom, a Tuner showroom and a Muscle showroom? One each for Palmont and one each for Rockport.

Whatever showrooms are left could be used for something special where maybe you could find random rides which have been sold to the showrooms by other street racers and could buy them at a lower price. They could also have performance and/or visual upgrades.

Well I think at this stage we need to realise that our vivid imaginations are creating idea's that aren't so important in the grand scheme of the game. What's most important is that the developers create a game with solid gameplay, group interaction, an interesting gameworld, and car tuning, because if all that us terrible then no one is gonna give a rats ass whether they have one big showroom or a showroom for each car style.

Anyway, aren't we used to having showrooms with every car? It's been around since, what, UG days, and it is more of a convinience when you interested in purchasing a new ride, rather than drive around to several different places for the same purpose.

^^^^ That remembers me of Test Drive Unlimited. You had to drive (sometimes to the other side of the island) just to buy a single car or even worse, just to see which cars were in that showroom so you could decide which one to buy next.

The idea of having separate showrooms sounds realistic, but I don't really care about that. Like Dr Houbenheimer, I prefer a good gameplay, no story at all, decent handling (something like MW or U2), nice online features and tuning. If EA does that, I'll be really happy.

that would be great. now really, why implement a free roam if: you dont need to drive to tuning shop, dont need to drive to races, dont need to drive to showrooms...you dont even need to drive anywhere basically. you just warp everywhere.
they could do it the TDU way, you can warp to the showroom(s) once you reach them once.
the feature with buying tuned cars of other users...GREAT idea.
you have a nicely tuned car, that is really good , has a good tuning setup and looks kickass, but you dont need it anymore(got something better to work on)? then you just put it on sale in a showroom for some serious money.
you know what bugs me? now that a new year is coming(For some it probably is there already) , NFS World online is not coming NEXT year, i can't just ignore it now. because its coming THIS year. its time to painfully wait for it and whine how long i have to wait for it to be released.

I thought that NFS was a racing game... :P I mean, the point of the game is to race, so the open environment is there to improve racing. Think of UG2 and Undercover Outrun races and cop chases - they wouldn't exist with closed envionments (or at least they would suck). As I wrote elsewhere in this forum, current circuit and sprint races should be converted to checkpoint races and so exploit the benefits of open environments. The point is that we don't need stupid constraints (like single-brand car dealers) to take advantage of open environments.
Hydro_PT wrote: decent handling (something like MW or U2)

Me too!!! But given how bad cars drive since ProStreet, my conclusion is that the poor physics engine is meant to force people to buy steeting wheels. :(

Well I think this game's handling is a lot more like MW and Carbon, from what I can tell in the gameplay video's. And the free roam is vital to giving you that sense of atmosphere, the difference between UG1 and UG2 is that 1 felt like it was a racing game with street/city scenary, whereas 2 felt like you were racing IN a street/city.
