nVidia is bent over by ATi right now. ATi is giving them the rape. ATi has the fastest single card solution in the world atm.

God no. Phenoms are garbage comapared to the Intel Core 2 Quad line. And you need a Phenom and 2/4 (2x X2 cards) HD3/4xxx cards to get a proper and true AMD Spider system.

AMD CPUs aren't really that good compared to the Core 2 Duo/Quad/Extreme lines. And they're buttraping the 65nm Dual Core CPUs to death.

I guess it's just because of where he's from... if your friends get into a habit of something, you can too.

BTW S2K: Remember that when you pick on my choice of a Quad over a dual.

K, and? I know I didn't make ATi break nVidia backwards with the X2. If you had a Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, you'd know it's said a lot like:

"STFU AND GET RAPED BY MY F***KING P90 B***H!!!"
and
"YOU'RE GAAARRBAGE, GETTING RAPED ALL OVER THE PLACE!1!"

Said the 2nd one a lot online.

I don't pick on it, It's just annoying to hear it all the time. Plus, your system is a bottleneck atm, so I keep that in mind lol

All I know is, if i'm owning someone on live, I know i'm not just gonna say "By jolly, I just gave you a good spanking!"

Best 4850 Card to get right now. Runs almost as fast as the 4870 but consumes far less power not to mention runs cooler.

My dad ordered a 9600 GSO for $36 for the hell of it so I can use it until I get my new PC.

I'm coming from a 7900GS so I'm expecting a good enough boost in performance, but am I gonna get one?

Quick question...

I picked up a new 8600GT off my brother for $20 Thursday night, which as you know, supports DX10, cuda, and the nVidia PhysX. I know all about the PhysX etc, etc, but since I have a quad core now, I know it's not going to improve performance... and since I have the processing power, is it even going to make a difference if it's enabled or not; other than pulling power away from the rendering capacity?

What do y'all think?

My guess is that if you run physX on a 8600GT, it will use some of its resources. 8800s had the 640mb and that for physX, but the 8600 does not.

Me myself, I'm looking at a 512mb HD4850 -> 512mb HD4870, but how does a GTX 260 compare for the same price as the HD4870? Worse eh? I might get the keyboard + mouse and the monitor first though. I want a 24" BenQ, so I have plenty of room for document + internet page and all, and don't have to keep switching windows and all that rubbish that's annoying now. Yes, I'm sure a 22" will be ample, and it's about $100 less, it was cheaper 2 months ago, but the dollar fell, and yeah, I still prefer a 24" because I sit a meter and a bit from the screen because of the desk.

For the time being, I'll have to run it on my current box;
8600GT 512mb, e2180, 2gb RAM, but yeah, it won't be great especially with the resolutions, but I should get quite a bit of money from work in the next few months and hopefully get a new rig within the holidays. Could I just de-tune it for games to not use the whole screen?

This is the ultimate: http://www.getright.com.au/v2006ver1/in ... &Itemid=26
But $$$
otherwise: http://www.getright.com.au/v2006ver1/in ... &Itemid=26

Yeah, I'll see how much I can make :) Mind you, I plan for this to last me a while. My current one is 5 years old, lol. So yeah, Screen, case and that could probably last a long time, might not need replacing in 10 years or more, lol. ANd yeah, Mobo is to be as future-proof as possible I think the DS3 was PCIE 2.0 and DDR3 (if not, correct me), so I'm not stuck with AGP and DDR400 and IDE and that which became redundant in a year, like the last build, lol.

GFX are expected to be swapped every few years.

Hmm, this 8600 (also a 512MB model,) seems to work fine with med/high graphics @ 1680x1050, No AA, along with 4GB RAM and a C2Q Q6600.

Also, think about a 22". If you're planning on watching BluRay movies on it or something, it is only 1050i, but if it's like mine, it will have an HDMI port, which will automatically switch the aspect ratio to 16:9 vs 16:10... plus, they're half the price.

Also, the GTX260 and HD4870 split the hairs, to evenly to make a decision of which you will get better performance out of for the general public. Really, the only way to decide is going to be to weight the little factors: which one performs better in games you plan to play it on, not just overall; things like warranty length; if you're like me, you may not trust some of the ATi companies; and then price is also a small matter.

Personally, I'm hoping to buy a GTX260 soon, since the Superclocked/OC-ed models (core-216,) seem to out-preform the 4870's slightly. Plus, they come in black... not that gay a** red or blue.

I might go the HD4870, because its cheaper if I go for the generic, PAlit brand. And in that case, my 7600 was with them.

About the screen; I've managed to bring the price down a bit, and hopefully I can go the 24" :) Probably won't watch that much blu-ray on it though, as that's what the PS3 and 52" plasma are for. I might get a http://huntergatherernyc.com/2008/10/benq-g2400wd/

That's sick, how much did it run him? I'm going to guess... either at least $7,000, or his soul... One of the two.

Him and his 2 bros chipped in for a home cinema. They have a full HD projector, PS3, X360, Wii, 5.1 surround with some decent hi-fi speakers, not high-high end, but quite good and note those little kits, umm, PVR also. Yeah, the projector costs about $1800 to replace the lamp every 2000 hours, lol.

Wow we have a 92" projector at 720P. The screen was free and the projector cost $400.
And it looks awesome.

I actually think it'd be pretty cool to have a projector vs an LCD or something.

Still can't wait for OLED's to hit the mainstream though... :P

Yeah, in "Just wanna talk" because it's on my mind... and here because this is where the talk of it started from trying to pick a HD4870 or a GTX260. I tried to move the convo away from here as it wasn't totally on-topic any more the considerations shifting to CPU and Monitor if anyone wanted to offer some advice.

And it's not a "New PC ZOMG COOL thread" as I don't have it yet, and I'm trying to figure out what combo is best. I managed to make it $400 cheaper by asking questions, and the performance hasn't been affected much... still very close to the original but some unnecessary features have been sacrificed... it's still over-clockable, and the features I dropped were ones that I was unaware of because yes, I know what would be good, but I still have my questions. I'm not here to brag, just get advice so I can get the most out of it for me, and build something that would still be upgradeable and keep up in 5 years time. I was uninformed with my last build, I ended up spending extra because some of the stuff was obsolete, only to have it die because the Mobo wasn't that great.

I'd go for a 4850. Sapphires can be found for around 140 or so.
