Dell Deals...

Post by Stereo »

Does anyone know any good Dell deals on a PowerEdge 400SC or 420SC server? Ebay won't work because you never know if it is in perfect or not so good condition... I tried FatWallet but I only found Dimension ones... BTW, The deals have to be lower than $300 US... I need help. :(
It definetly has to have a P4... I don't care if It's 2.0GHz I just want a P4..

I suggest you need to learn more about comps.. Pentium 4 is just a type. It doesn't make it good.

For a good server, I'd reccomend a Xeon or an Opteron system. What exactly are you serving with the server?

Why does it have to be Dell? Any computer shop could build you a system that comes under your budget. Or you could buy the parts and build it yourself.

Letting Stereo build a PC himself is kinda.. Risky.

With his age.

Oh yeah I forgot he's only like 10 years old . . . still, there's no point getting a Dell because you are just paying for the name.

*still wonders something*

The fastest P4 being sold here runs on 3,4 Ghz. Fastest AMD 64 here on 2,4 Ghz. Does the clockspeed REALLY affects performance?

clock speed isn't as important as it was a few years ago... there are lots more things to it... for example the 64bit on the AMD does wonders :P

Heh I agree on there. So far everytime I upgraded the cpu I bought a cpu with twice as fast bus speed as before (200-400-800-1666), but now I bought an amd athlon 64 2800 which has a bus speed of 1.8GHz. That's only 200MHz faster than the athlon I bought over 2 years ago.
Pentiums on the other hand go by bus speed. So a 3GHz P4 is comparable to a 2GHz Athlon 64 (that's why AMD uses XXXX+ naming where the XXXX is comparable to a pentium with that bus speed).

Then there's the celerons and the semprons, both the low budget cpus.
Stereo it's still a better deal on getting a 2500 or 2800 celeron than a 2.0 P4. An even better deal would be a 2500 athlon/sempron.
