NFSU2 Tuning Track Time Attack!

Post by RacingManiac »

First post here, but the tuning feature seem to lend itself well to such a competition.....if this is a duplicate then delete this thread....

Basically I think this is the longest layout of the track and you can access it via tune performance setting with either tune for URL races and Tune for circuit race.

List your car, level of mod, laptime and maybe attach a screen cap as a proof(hey you can compare the max G too)

To get the ball rolling....

AE86(Corolla GTS)

Highest level of tune(lvl 3 Turbo, suspension, brake, ECU, Engine, direct port Nitrous, weight reduction and tires, and yes I did finished the game, I got it last Fri from my source and played it for 25 hours over the weekend...)

Lap Time: 1:09.68
(largely Nitrous free but a big fat shot of it out of the last sprint for the line...)

For extra comparo:

AE86

Highest mod except Turbo(no Turbo), and no Nitrous...

Laptime 1:17.51

Hi! First post here. Good topic to start things off.

Also got full access already (finished the game after 20-ish hours, hehe...). Game wasn't too challenging, even on hard.

Been trying to tweak my Evo VIII. Can't pull off better than 1.14 G's. Got a Trueno (a rip-off of Takumi's of Initial-D...) that pulls 1.43 G's... and I never touched its suspension setup yet. Also, it's got no body mods (except the hood).

I hope somebody can solve the Evo's understeer soon...

I tried yesterday on just about every car and came to the same conclusion that the Corolla is unbeatable.....it's easily 5 sec a lap faster than any other car.....

Kinda surprising...lol

BTW RX7 is a close as I could get to the Corolla's time, 1:14-ish

Sounds an interesting challenge! :)

Btw RacingM, if you finished the game in about 25 hours, you're firetruck damn good! I played for about 24h hours (8h yesterday) and I only completed 40% of the game... It's a lot more challenging than NFSU. Don't know what you find easy in that game...

I think it might just be the car....the car is a lot more responsive than what I find in NFSU(which is perpetual understeer for all), AE86 in this for example have good traction and turns in well, I use it in just about all but one of the races(drag, in which I use the AWD goodness of Eclipse), I don't think I have completed ALL of the races though, but as far as the "story mode"(get sponsor, race required races, open new part of city...etc) goes the game is done.

Maybe. I'm using the Honda Civic since the begining, except for drift (which I *hate* btw) and find it pretty competitive against the other. It's hard, but I'm having fun! :)

Here's a couple of tests I did just now:

Conditions: Circuit Test Run, Nitrous-free, NFSU2 v1.1, Level 3 all parts

Project Carbon Evo VIII
Best Lap: 1:16.95
Max G's: 1.03G
Parts: Carbon widebody, carbon trunk, carbon wing, Volk wheels
Comments: Plenty of acceleration; plenty of understeer, stubborn steering

Project AE86 Takumi-style
Best Lap: 1:12.25
Max G's: 1.34G
Parts: Carbon stock body, no wing, Konig Rewind wheels
Comments: Plenty of oversteer (stock body), but quick on turns nevertheless

Project AE86 Pinoy-racer
Best Lap: 1:08.41
Max G's: 1.24G
Parts: Carbon trunk, wing, aero body, Rota wheels
Comments: Great handling, but tends to understeer

Project Sleeper Civic
Best Lap: 1:16.79
Max G's: 1.13G
Parts: Stock all (except internals)
Comments: Understeer (inherent characteristic of FWD), lots of lost traction on cornering

Project Carbon Civic
Best Lap: 1:12.43
Max G's: 1.14G
Parts: Carbon all (just like Carbon Evo), 5Zigen Wheels
Comments: Great ride! Too bad it can't turn as quick as a Trueno, though...

That's it for now. Pics coming soon... (got them on jpeg; just need to figure out how to post 'em...)

Can you be concidered as a good tester? I mean, were you regurlarly doing good lap or it was "up and down"? How accurate those times are? Are you able to exploit the limit of the car, which I often do on Gran Turismo 3.

About the understeer with the Civic, are you driving with a wheel? Because I didn't notice any major understeer. It even has tendance to oversteer.

After fiddling with setup(and came to the conclusion that for AE86, to kill understeer, what NOT to do is reduce rear wing....), got a 1:07.93

This is a new car I just made though, with carbon all around with widebody kit(armageddon), highest state of tune and no Nitrous....track attack special...lol

I'm a keyboard racer. :D

The Hachi Roku really is a maniac... even the Miata didn't come close...

Project Evo VIII is improving little by little. For now, aero settings are full-blasted (both 10). I'm seeing a little improvement by softening the suspension. Weird, huh?

Conditions: All level 3, no nitro, Circuit test track.

Project Carbon Evo VIII
Best Lap: 1:15.59 (from 1:16.95)
Max G's: 1.07G
Parts: Carbon widebody, carbon trunk, carbon wing, Volk wheels
Tweaks: Gearing, suspension, aero
Comments: Steering's livening up little by little... still sloppy compared to the Trueno, though...

Project Miata
Best Lap: 1:11.61
Max G's: 1.07G
Parts: Carbon bumpers and skirts, carbon trunk, carbon wing, 15" 5Zigen wheels
Tweaks: None (what came with the mods)
Comments: I can't believe this tiny car's got understeer! Oh well... time to tweak it up...

Here's a nice challenge: BEAT THE HACHI ROKU!!!

Hi there, nice thread!

I've tested several cars too, mainly for best street-x performance, but if tried a bit an the tuning track as well. got a 1.05:92 with the corolla.
(maximum upgrades (level 3), widebodykit, and some testing on the setup).
And using keyboard and automatic-shifting (so I'm sure it isn't a really 'fast' time)

Well, the setup-option seem to me a bit 'strange'. I've maxed both wings to 10.0, ecu und turbo maxed on the high rpm, short gear ratios for better accelerating (there are only very points to drive faster then 300km/h) steering ration to 1.10, and the overall suspension is very soft.

It's a bit odd, because I lowered the car as much as I can (no real negative effect experienced by that), softened the springs, dampers and sway bars and it all works pretty fine and improves me cornering speed.
Well ok, the car gets a bit 'slippery' with _very_ soft setting (below 2.0 maybe).
The suspension settings works best for balancing out under/oversteer.

Nice time with your AE86, Cov242. :D

Did some testing again last night. The Evo VIII can hardly reach the low 1:15-s. It's already getting frustrating. Next move would be to test it with suspension fully stiff (lots of sliding there, I'll bet).

Played with the Hachi Roku again. Did nitrous-free and nitroused runs. Times are 1:07.49 and 1:05.94. Suspension and aero are at default settings.

Gave the soft setup a go and indeed it is faster(well there goes my faith in the game physics), I was able to lap with my AE86 consistantly in 1:07s and got down as low as 1:06.07 without Nitrous...

Testing cars project

Post by Claer »

Hi,

This thread is very interesting. I was trying to find "the best car" of NFSU2.
For this, I'm doing the folloing :

- Identify typical tracks. I came with Sprint track "Sentinel Hill", URL track 2 and drag "South Runway". I didn't use drift track as i'm not doing close enougth scores on the same track yet.
Seeing this thread, I think I'll change the URL Track 2 with the default test track :P

- Upgrade each car with Lvl 3 perf upgrade + aero parts (bumpers, spoilers,...) No unique at all!!

- Getting ALL cars performance on the dyno test with *default* Circuit params.

- Establish reference time for all cars with 3 "good" try on each car, each circuit.

This will lead to a big spreadsheet with all my times recorded in.

Current Status :

I'm working on the first track of my list "Sentinel Hill". Currently I have 14 records (that means 42 good races). By *FAR* the AE86 has the lead.
It handles way better than other cars, in some case i can go more than 30 km/h above other cars for the same corner. For example the 1st corner I got an exit speed of 175 km/h with the '86. unbelievable with the Evo VIII.

Here is the top 3 cars I got at the moment :

AE86 average : 1'25.99 (1'25.91; 1'26.25; 1'25.8 )
350Z average : 1'27.77 (1'28.36; 1'27.19; 1'27.76 )
RX-7 average : 1'28.76 (1'27.71; 1'29.15; 1'29.41 )

I don't care if these times are the best or not. I DO care they are made by the same person with a small gap between tries.

Maybe you should give the 350Z a try on your circuit

I'll post the whole file when the spreadsheet will be complete. I just hope to not loose interest on NFSU2 soon :?

My best is 1:11 with the Miata and 1:12 with the AE86 ... No Nitrous, all Level 3 upgrades, no R&D into suspension :P

I might play around with it ... maybe ...

I managed to pull off 1.53 Gs with the Miata, but only did a 1:17 because I firetruck up the hairpin and fishtailed considerably :P Also screwed up a couple other corners ...

Is everyone racing clean or using walls to maintain speed ?

I've done a 1'12.95 (1.25G) with rx-7, all lvl3, no nitrous, no wall and always 2 tyres on the track (well, exept on the first turn).

BTW Jmac-, if you want to help me testing all cars you're welcome :)
I saw your post with all perf pics of all cars lvl3, so i think it might interest you.
