Oooh, and here is a prog that EVERYONE should have:

PORT MONSTER
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3454.html

It's a port scanner with an excellent firewall. Also, when someone tries to hack you, the program wil block them andl record the IP, so then you can permanantly block them Definately a must have..

Free antivirus apps
http://www.free-av.com (very up to date - tested)
http://www.kaspersky.com

Firewall
http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm (Personal free, very good - tested)
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1 ... 62_004.exe (good, can prove to be a system resource eater)

Ok here's the good part: DON'T EVER CONNECT TO THE INTERNET WITHOUT A FIREWALL (if a hardware firewall is available, software is not necessary although it's recommended) AND A VIRUSSCANNER IN THE BACKGROUND!

Based on a true story: after a fresh install of windows I connected to the internet to download the latest firewall and antivir. In the 10min I was online I got 2 or 3 trojans. Took me quite some time to clean the computer.

Spam and IP tracker

http://www.visualiptrace.com/index.html
The IP tracker after you've traced the IP address for the spam. VisualRoute 2005
http://www.emailtrackerpro.com/index.html
Traces the original IP address of sender and approximate location of sender. eMailTrackerPro4

Both of them are trial versions for 15 days, but they really do work! Even from a free webmail account like Hotmail!

eMailTrackerPro3 is a free download too, and it works just as good.

Oh... in advance: the "load images" option in the preferences menu is activated.
Actually normal pics are shown, but not the same with backsgrounds!

Any idea?

WTF? It works fine for me. Maybe your custom desktop theme is screwing it up somehow.

Yeah the Firefox problem appeared because of the desktop mod... Style XP made that. Many users told me. Style XP seems to apply the windows browser background is to Firefox (white window in this case). The same with fonts

IE6 works well though.

I've got the Alienware AlienGUIse desktop theme.

I don't know if you can still get it though :?

@Stereo: Why would you want your PC to be like a Mac? That's like downgrading . . .

ok, i've got a really strange problem with my PC:

When i turn my PC on, after about 20 - 30 mins it restarts it self, then i switch it back on everything runs perfectly normal, does not restart at all, which why i avoid turning my PC off and leave it on standby insted. This happens once or twice when i turn my PC on after several hours.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong.... here's my specs

ASUS P4P800SE DELUXE
INTEL P4 2.4GHz
1 GB of DDR RAM PC2100
NVDIA 6800 GT 256
SB AUDIGY 2 - 7.1

WINXP Professonal SP2
All updated drivers including DirectX

If anyone has any idea what could be wrong then please let me know, thanks.

EDIT: .....so i guess no one can help me out then, oh well.

I can't run ALOT of programs and I can't install a game I really want to play!
It shows an error when I try to run those things:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

That error makes me mad. I really need help!

@Sir Ibi: To be honest, there are LOADS of reasons for such restarts. Most common are buggy drivers and a faulty PSU/mobo. Try and borrow a friend's PSU and test it out. (If you havnt done it before, you will need your mobo manual)

@Stereo: Hmm..... seems like your trying to play a really old game? tell us something more about what youe installing and when does the error show up.
Also try this: DOSBox
and before you download it, search for your games here: Game List

and oh, dont forget t correct me if I'm wrong (about playing old games).

DrewBoi: i think u have a virus/spyware/malware infestation

a good defrag would also help... not referring to the crabby Microsoft defrag in the XP's computer management console, i mean a real defrag appliction (like O&O Defrag Professional)
