do i know much about modeling?...............yep, i know enough
do i know much about PC specs?................nah, not really
so i need some help to see if my pc is under performing.
How does this 3D mark work exactly?...........i know it takes different aspects of you're PC and gives a score based on overall performance.
Below are my pc specs and my 3Dmark score.......is this below average or normal?
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ 1.7 GHz
Mother board: Gigabyte 7VTXE+
RAM: 512 DIMM SDRAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 64mb
Sound: Creative SB Live! series
DirectX: 9.0b
OS: Windows 98SE
and my 3Dmark score was 76.
any help would be appreciated

Strange is that a forum user here has a rating of 6000 displayed in his sig.
You have such a low rating probably because of the gfx...

next week i will be gettin a new graphics card.........and so far it's choice between the ATI Radeon 9200 and Geforce FX 5200, but i'm not sure which. i may also go for something more expensive, but only if the gain justifies the extra £'s.

Don't take the FX5200... Radeon 9200 offers much more.
If you can, then buy the radeon 9600 (pro) or gf 5600 (ultra). I think you won't regret it, as they almost twice as fast as the 5200/9200.

i know the ATI's a better card, but i heard that the ATI Radeon's have some compatability issues with some games.......is this true?

There must be something wrong with the program. The other guy's comp was ove yours, but a difference of 5925 is ridiculous.

for some reason i don't get all the options available...........that must affect the overall score
How about the 256MB GeForce FX5600XT DDR TV DVI 8x as opposed to the two mentioned before?
EDIT:
some new info: here's a pic of 3dmark test selections...............can anyone tell me why most are not supported?

Its just your GF2, there`s nothing wrong with 3DMark.
I would buy a new one, 9500Pro (if you can get one because they aren`t build anymore...) or somethin and then softmod it with the
Omega Drivers (
http://www.omegacorner.com) to a 9800Pro and then your score will be around 5500.
Or buy a Radeon 9600 or GF FX 5600. those cards have a score around 3000. They cost around 100 euro`s (in Holland).
3DMark2001/2003 test your entire pc but most of the score depends on your Graphics Card.
EDIT: O, and leave the configurations on default, just press Start.
