Look where are snow-chains! Stang is RWD.

Well, it's a RWD car, so in theory, if there should be chains on any of the wheels, it should be the rears. On the other hand, that's a V6, so there's considerably less danger of the rear wheels breaking loose, so having chains on the front tires (given that that Mustang would likely ultimately understeer) isn't totally noobish. However, realistically, any car with chains or snow tires should have them on all four wheels.

Then again, if that picture shows weather typical of the area, any FWD car with decent all-season tires would conquer the roads, and even that Mustang would be fairly easy to drive.

In my country while winter is you have to put clains on wheels that is running(RWD so clains should be on rear wheels) you can get ticket if you dont have clains.

it got one simple good thing about it... atleast you got grip (in SNOW) while steering..

cause with a high(er) power RWD car and only chains at the rear you wouldn't even go anywhere you want to cause your wouldn't even understeer but not steer AT ALL!

so with only 2 chains.. it is useless in both ways

Yeah! That is correct! But if that is woman then we could only gess what a F**k is he trying to do. Or better question. Who put the clains on wheels? If she put them thenn we dont have to be in shock. (Its a woman. And woman dont use her brain whenn doing that sort of thing)

190hp isn't exactly high.

Stig, that's not how tyre chains work.

They only provide traction when the wheel has power going to it.

Putting the chains on the steering wheels won't improve the steering at all (unless it's fwd of course).

first have you ever seen snow downunder

second then tell me what you would do when you try to brake or even slow down... cause you have to do that sometimes...

wich would mean you would loose grip....

most of the cars driving around in the Alps (there you have that place again ) in winter use them on all tires so front AND rear. wonder why they do that... and not all are audi Quattro's

Chains don't really help that much when you brake. If you are going fast enough to lose traction when you brake, then you're going too fast! And in my state, the law says that only 2 tyres on the car are required to have chains, so obviously 2 is enough.

I know AUS has snow... was just kidding...

you don't need much speed to loose traction if you are on a road where you need chains...

but then again I don't know what the rules there say when you need to use them

when I was in the US I was like I went to Seattle (near the Rockys for those who don't know) in winter and it snowed a little (atleast I thought it was a little) and everybody stoped and put chains on their cars... and I thought you are damn crazy! those chains will make you LOOSE grip on a fairly normal (only wet from the snow) road.... and yes I was right... there was a traffic jam and we stopped (we had no chains on the cars..) but the Idiot behind us did not stop fast enough (and did not leave enough space behind us but that is a other story) and drove into the back of the nice Volkswagen Carmangia... with his damn car with chains on...

I know you are right about the main place to put chains on a car. but you can't tell me that when driving on snow you don't benefit from chains in the front...even with RWD cars

Well the best thing to do when snowing is:

- Go slower than normally
- Use a higher gear than normally (i.e. 4th instead of 3rd)
- Avoid full throttle/full brake, or other violent movements!

And the best thing is to use chains in all the wheels. If not, use only 2 in the appropiate wheels (rear in RWD, front in FWD, rear in AWD)

So the point is! Buy a car with FWD and put clains on front wheels and here you go! You have traction when you brake and when you akcelerating! He He.
And for going fast with clains: The max speed with clains is 60 KM/H so you cant lose traction when you gonig 60 KM/H
Of course you can go faster than 60 but thenn you can get ticket . In law is writen that max speed with clains is 60KM/H This is good discussion! We should have more of them.
