in NFSU i start my game but everything is grey all i can see is the car in the backround

I had the same same problem and the reason was the Display adapter(Riva TNT 2).

I believe It's the same with you too and the only way out is to buy something newer.

Right ckick on the descktop>properties>settings>advanced>adapter
It's written at the top (under adapter type)

Ok, this confirms that the video controller really is the problem.

I'm not really into the hardware stuff but from what I know anything newer than the Riva will be good enough.

Can't really tell you

I'm using Ati Radeon 9200 128MB and I happy with It.A friend of mine plays the game on GForce2 MX200(or something like that) 64MB that and he's Ok with It too.
It mainly depends on the money you're willing to give. The bigger, the better as always

As I said I'm not really Into the hardware stuff. Sorry
Maybe some of the other guys can give more details about the best buy for you.
