New car?, want more performance or Looks? Come here and ask!
hmmm i have a question about tires. Since I live in a high altitude area (6000 ft) as I said before, I need new tires. I am looking for GOODYEAR specifically. Goodyear tires have been on the car since day 1 so my dad is looking for a good tire that will last and can stand the pressure of a sports car...... oh and they have to fit 18 inch rims maximum
This is a request... My dad is in Iraq right now so i dont really have any barings on this...

my kona
I was wondering if you could point me in a direction to see who can make me a custom air intake system that works with my hood. I don't have enough time to custom build a air intake system this year, so I'm just wondering who to see.

Intakes have nothing at all to do with your hood. If anything, they have more to do with your headlight, unless youre using a short ram intake in which case its almost useless anyway. Therefore you can use pretty much any brand of intake.

hey guys, since i just got a job, i am wanting to get more hp outta my car,I drive a 2002 Pontiac Firebird. i know that a turbo would cost way too much for it so i want to get it supercharged. i want a new ehaust system also, and maybe something to stiffen the body since it has t-tops. oh, would a new intercooler be needed? i would really appreciate it....
I do realise this is a place where there are alot of imports.......

Cpt - Supercharging will be just as expensive as turbocharging. Which one you choose is upto you, but bear in mind turbos generally last longer. You shouldnt have an intercooler already if your car is N/A, but if you turbo it, yes you will need one. Exhaust, get a de-cat straight through pipe and youll be sorted.

You don't need a new exhaust mainfold, you don't need a wastegate, you don't need an intercooler (for low boost setups) and you don't need any other mods at all.
Just bolt on and go.

But then youre lucky if it lasts 50k miles, this then warrants replacing the supercharger, which again will last another 50k miles before needing replacing.
Turbochargers, if not heavily abused (ie from cold), will generally last the life of the vehicle. My car has over 110'000 miles with the original T25, and is still running like a dream.

Simple low boost superchargers are just as reliable as a turbo, if not more reliable. There is less heat, less parts and less clutter under the bonnet.

A supercharger relies on always being on boost to eliminate lag. You tell me that something which is always activated will wear out slower than something which does the same job less often, and Ill pull a monkey out of my bumbum.
Your argument about having less parts, therefore must be reliable is extremely flawed. A rotary has much less moving parts than a convential piston engine. More reliable? No, not a chance in hell.

A turbo still has much more heat, and a turbo runs all the time as well, so what gives?Grez~Supra_RZ-S wrote:A supercharger relies on always being on boost to eliminate lag. Maybe you don't have properly developed s/c kits in th UK . . . but over here they are very popular.
btw, I'm talikng about centrifugal s/c, not screw types

BUT I LIVE IN COLORADO!!!!!!!! so the cold will get at the turbo...i think a supercharger is the way to go because
1. its cheaper
2.its eaiser
3.tubocharging a f-body makes it sound gay IMO

A turbo doesnt run all the time while the engine is on. Even at idle, a supercharger is active.

My cold comment was referring to not revving it to redline on cold. Once the engine has warmed up, the turbo is good to go.so the cold will get at the turbo
I dont see how, especially considering a supercharger sounds like an annoying whine.tubocharging a f-body makes it sound gay IMO

Hmmm, that being said, I'd go for the Supercharger!boganbusman wrote:OK, I think it's down to personal preference.
If you frequently rev your engine and give a bit, and have plenty of money, then go for a turbo.
If you want instant low down torque for easy everyday driving, and a bit short on cash, then go for the supercharger.

i have $6000 set up for all of this, this money has come from 5 years of summer lawn mowing. In Texas, where people are lazy and scared of 100 degree heat, I did the law mowing....
that being said, i want the supercharger because less money required, so maybe a new pair of rims or something, or just save $1000 for the xbox360 and ps3... yea, im going for the supercharger, i think ill buy this stuff starting next month when my dad is back for R&R from Iraq....
thnx for all of the conversations about pros and cons on turbo and supercharging...
