Help w/ Underground Mode level 63 Straight Up

Underground Mode level 63 Straight Up (drag race with no traffic) seems impossible. I am driving a Miata and even with 5 perfect shifts and nitrous from 3rd to 5th gear, I can't keep up with the 2 lead cars. Even drafting off of the second car (the only one I can catch) ends up blowing my engine about 3 sec from the end of the race. I have all available performance upgrades installed and I have even traded out for the Lancer which claims better acceleration with the same results. Any suggestions?

Try using nitro as soon as possible (from 2nd gear to 5th). Along with a few perfect shifts it should be enough for a win in any drag race.

Try diff cars. I think the best (you should have) is Acura RSX... But I remember I managed to win this with 206 and Civic.

I had the same problem with civic. I switched to RSX and I won with 2 fingers in the nose.

Y'all rock! I had discounted the RSX because it didn't have any better acceleration than the miata, but that sixth gear made all the difference! A little faster on the nitro and two tries later I won thanks to you. So is this how it gets near the end? Change cars for each race type to exploit the different strengths? Thankfully there is no depreciation or I would have no bank left!

the rsx is by far the best car until you unlock the higher performance upgrades for cars like the rx7, i remember racing and feeling how unfair it was for the computer that my car was so much faster......how i laughed.....

Well, there was this one drag where there wasn't any traffic so I used my
nitro right away and then kept looking back and bumping into the lane that
anyone tried to pass me in

...

hehe - nice tactics there Blue! Yeh, you'll pretty much find yourself chopping and changing cars for a while Doogs, but like GRez says, you'll prolly stick with sth like the RX7 once you get it - that's a great all round car to finish the game with.

well I've won 63 with my miata real good. just have a good fast start then cut them off.. then hold down B (watching back of your car) to see if they plan to go around you, u can always cut them off.. that how i won.

You can finish the game with any car...

I had problem with the RSX in a drag just before you get your first lvl 3 performance kits... engine and gears...

cause it has only 5 short gears... I always Blew my engine just to keep up... (by drafting...

)
So I took the Celica...Celica.??? yep.. cause it had 6 gears.. and nop more blown engine... till I got the 6 gears on all cars.. and then you can use all cars.. again...

so I went for the 206... (don't like to change cars all the time.. )

RSX is good at some stages...
im using Nitro right after 1st gear to 2nd gear Perfect Shift....
hitting the button 2 times per second gives a nice boost

specially if you have unique NOS

the ACC of a S2000 is faster than a RX-7 the RX sucs in ACC

yeh!! love it!! I think you should get dual tips whenever you fit a rear bumper with two holes - just another wish struck off the list...
