Stupidest Thing Youve Done In a Car?
maybe the mom side is a bit weird but a Rav4 can be pretty fast (even the Diesels at start cause of higher torque)
and alot of "tuned" 3 series are 316 and are often slower then stock!
and with that comes that alot of "tuners" drive like sh*t
few days ago I used my Mothers Hyundai Lantra GLS, and was standing next to a Opel Astra (from around 1990) with the usual Ricer bull***, bodykit, huge exhaust you name it...
but I was faster with the 90 bhp stock 1.5 in the Hyundai but with good shifting I managed to stay ahead of him...
but that goes for most of those guys.. they still believe that you have to shift as late as possible

I know you don't shift as late as possible, but when is the best time to shift. Does it vary in each car? Speaking of shifting, my dad taught me how to 'quick shift' which is, in a nutshell, shifting without stepping on the clutch. At a certain RPM, all the gears in the tranny are perfectly synchronized, and with a little preassure on the shifter, it'll pop into place without having to use the clutch. Just thought I'd let you know.
-EDIT- I always end up at the top of the page.

the best shiftpoint differs on each car. some have a much higher best point then others.
a diesel for instance accelerates best if you shift soon. for instance my 206 accelerates best between 2000 and 3200 after that it slows down. (it's a HDI diesel)
it really depends on the car.. it is a thing to find out.. by shifting early and later to see when the car has more power when you release the clutch.
my moms Lantra acc the best (more less worse
) if you shift at 4000 RPM and it will fall back to 3000 (exept from 4 to 5th gear) and between 3 and 4000 it got most hp and Tq.

All you need to do is find the stats on your car, and look at the power figures.
It will say the power of your car, and the RPM level at which peak power is achieved.
Shifting at the peak of the power range will make sure you use the engine to it's full potential.
btw, these sort of questions belong in the Tech Talk thread
My mom's a police officer and loves driving, we have a 3 door RAV4 with a 2 litre engine, that thing is seriously fast, we going from the beach to home at that time, and at the highway we reached 170 KPH without any problems. In Germany she drove 185 KPH in our Ford Mondeo when we were going on vacationJopuma wrote:That sounds pretty fake to me. No mom would do that willingly. You'd have to use one of those knock out cloths and put her in the back while you do the drag race.

we even got a toyota Yaris Diesel
as far as I know it is to small for the US market..
but it is for sale in Canada but then called toyota Echo. (even in sedan
)
here is a pic
and yes that is a diesel a 1.4 turbo diesel

or cars like the peugeot 206 CC
is currently also in diesel:

ok a convertible is IMO rather useless as diesel cause they are more for fun then for their usefullness.. cause they are not build for practicality.
so you won't drive loads of Km/miles with them.
but for cars that are used alot we use diesels almost every brand has diesels in their program here.. only a few american brands don't and the US cars that have diesels have european diesel engines in it. from factories that are linked to the brand like for GM cars tthey have opel diesels in it..
a diesel is on high milage a year alot cheaper cause diesel itself is alot cheaper then normal petrol.
atm 1ltr normal pertrol is sold here for 1.40 eruo and a bit(rises almost daily) that is around 1.5 dollar and +/- 3.5 ltr is 1 gallon.
and diesel is around 1 euro a litre and you can do alot more miles with 1 ltr diesel. so that is a big difirence in price (ok the cars are more expensive and you have to pay more tax on your car... but when you drive alot it is alot cheaper
